Chapter 267
I’ll Be The Warrior’s Mother
The demons had actively rampaged in the human realm for merely a week. However, the devastation the world experienced during that time couldnât be simply described as âbriefâ. Many lives were lost, accompanied by significant financial damage.
Following the Demon Kingâs death, each nation exerted utmost efforts to rebound from the calamity theyâd faced. The duchy was no exception.
âMilady!â came a voice, interspersed with sobs.
âWhat on earthâ¦â
Upon her arrival at the ducal mansion, Yelenaâs face tensed. She had only now become aware of the chaos the Demon King had caused within the castle. Several servants, along with the knights whoâd attempted to resist the Demon King, had lost their lives.
âArrange for the funerals and a memorial service.â
Subsequent days were a whirlwind. They mended the sections of the ducal mansion that the Demon King had obliterated and assembled a squad to neutralize the remaining demons in the duchy. Priority was assigned to the residents whoâd borne the brunt of the demon attacks; they were compensated, and a makeshift medical camp was established to treat the injured at no charge.
Before she knew it, ten days had flown by.
Sitting in the library, Yelena, rubbing her weary eyes, found her thoughts drifting to Kaywhin.
âIs he resting well?â
She recalled the night before. Kaywhin hadnât come to their bedroom by the time sleep overtook her. Heâd likely remained in his office, engrossed in his responsibilities. Although Yelena too had much on her plate, it seemed trivial in comparison to her husbandâs workload.
She pondered for a moment, then rose from her seat. Her ankle, which had been injured, had significantly improved over the past ten days. Now, she could walk unaided, albeit slowly. As she meandered towards her husbandâs office, she mused, âI never noticed how long this corridor was.â
Even though the day bore a chill, she felt perspiration forming. At last, she was at his door.
âMy lady.â
The soldier stationed at the entrance acknowledged Yelena with a nod. He then rapped on the firmly shut office door to signal her presence. Shortly after, the door opened.
âYelena.â
When the door opened, Kaywhin appeared with a look of surprise on his face.
His gaze fixed directly on Yelenaâs left ankle.
His eyes wrinkled with concern.
âHow did you get hereâ¦? If you had something to tell me, I would have come to you.â
âI didnât come because I had any particular business; I just wanted to see your face.â
âYou couldâve told me thatâ¦â
âNever mind. I know youâre busy; I canât ask you to come or go just because of that.â
Using her uninjured right foot, Yelena tiptoed to peek over Kaywhinâs shoulder at the view of his office.
As expected, there were stacks of documents on the desk.
He must have processed so many to have only that stack left. It was exhausting just to look at them.
âDo you manage to eat your meals while working?â
Recently, Yelena hadnât seen her husband at the dining table.
The servants mentioned they brought his meals to the office, but she wondered if he genuinely ate them.
Kaywhin, seemingly undisturbed, kept his eyes fixed on Yelenaâs ankle.
âYou mustnât push yourself. What if the injury worsens?â
âIt wonât.â
The speed of Yelenaâs ankleâs healing was notably rapid, surprising the doctor each day.
She had managed to walk in just ten days.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
For most people, it would have taken nearly three weeks.
However, no matter what she said, her words seemed to fall on deaf ears.
By the look on his face, consumed with worry for her, she knew he was still concerned, even though sheâd assured him repeatedly she was okay.
Observing her anxious husband, Yelena spoke up.
âSo, will you keep me standing here? My leg hurts.â
The effect was immediate.
The moment she finished speaking, Kaywhin swiftly lifted Yelena into his arms and brought her into his office.
Yelena thought she saw a soldier guarding the office door cover his mouth, seemingly taken aback by her husbandâs assertive action.
Thud.
The door closed, and after setting Yelena down on the sofa, Kaywhin let out a gentle sigh.
âYelenaâ¦â
âLetâs sleep together tonight.â
âWhat?â
âI know youâve hardly been sleeping lately. Instead of pulling all-nighters in your office, come and sleep in the bedroom tonight.â
