âDid I say

can talk?â Carlos shot a cold glare at Averie. Averie fell silent.
ous and indignant Averie was, Vera grew more sure that Carlos ng act was only a show. But then, how loving could a man who killed his wife and children be?
and Averies
A man like Carlos would only desire a woman he did not have. Once the woman was within his grasp, he wouldnât be bothered to treat her nicely. He would probably never pamper anymore.
âThis is our fault. Iâll compensate you. State your terms.â Carlosâs voice was indifferent, as though it was routine. He hadnât realized how nervous he was when he saw Vera being hit just now.
âI can ask for anything?â Vera raised a brow. Even though she and her sons had miraculously survived, she still hoped that Carlos and Averie would pay for their murderous actions.
âDonât go too far, Miss Vivian,â Averie shouted anxiously. She was afraid Vera might demand something unreasonable and threatened her position.
T
âGet out.â Carlosâs patience with Averie had reached its limit.
âCarlos, Iâ¦â Averie began. She felt wronged and looked at Carlos with teary eyes. Why couldnât Carlos see she was bullied by Vera?
âGet her out of here,â Carlos ordered the bodyguards. He wanted to speak privately
with Vera.
âCarlos, Iâm sorry. Itâs my fault. I wonât do it againâ¦â Averie kept apologizing but was still dragged out by the bodyguards and s**t*s.
âHold up.â Vera wanted to make things clear before everyone. âI know I canât be compared to Miss Powell, and I wouldnât dare to ask for much. Iâll be grateful if Miss Powell stays away from me from now on.â
Her meaning was clear. If Averie were smart, she would leave Vera alone. Vera would deal with her later. But if Averie came looking for trouble, Vera wouldnât hold herself back. She could beat Averie up each time.
Averie naturally flew into a rage. Carlos, however, didnât give Averie a chance to

Only Vera and Carlos remained in the room. The atmosphere was awkward and uncomfortable.
âAre
you satisfied?â Carlos suddenly spoke coldly, ending the silence.
Vera sat weakly at the head of the bed, looking like she hadnât completely
recovered from the sedative. She tightened her fingers on the thin blanket. âExcuse me?â
âHow can a woman who single-handedly dealt with several kidnappers be beaten by someone who had always been pampered?â Carlos had been suspicious for a while. Even considering the effects of the sedative, Averie shouldnât be able to hit Vera so many times.
âI canât afford to offend Miss Powell,â Vera replied, âYouâre backing her up, Mr. Monroe. Iâm just someone ordinary. Itâs natural for me to be afraid. What if the next shot you give me is poison?â Vera reached up and touched her face, her eyes filled with mockery. âIâm beautiful Itâs natural for me to want to live.â
Carlos knew he was in the wrong but showed no shame. âThe sedative was necessary. I promise there wonât be a next time if you and Dr. Miracle can cure Neil.â
âSeems like you donât understand Dr. Miracle and the power of the Ford family,â Vera mocked coldly. âRamon might have saved that child if not for the sedative. As for nowâ¦â Vera snorted. âYou can dream on!â
Carlos even resorted to using sedatives to achieve his goals. Who knew what outrageous things he might do in the future? Vera regretted involving Ramon in this and now wanted Ramon to leave as soon as possible.
