Chapter 402
Love in the Limelight (Astrid and Elio)
âItâs my fault we donât have any water, Bernice muttered, and Odell immediately rushed to comfort her.
âNo, none of us blame you.â
Bernice said, âBut Astrid...â
âDonât drag Astrid into this unnecessarily, she never blamed you,â Elio chimed in.
Feeling the icy atmosphere coming from Elio, Bernice fell silent.
Astrid glanced at her, then looked away. âIf youâre tired, you can head back the way we came. Iâve marked the trees along the path. Mr. Naylor, Elio, and I will go find some food.â
Bernice, having grown up in comfort and never experiencing hardship, was indeed struggling. The heat was unbearable and she was considering turning back. The cave was boring, but at least it was cool.
Seeing Astrid leaving, Parrish said to Clyde, âClyde, you and Odell escort Ms. Bernice back. Iâll protect Astrid.â
âWait, she doesnât need your protection! You just want to hang out with her!â Clyde grumbled, but he didnât follow. He was worried about Odell and Bernice encountering danger on their own.
On the way back, Bernice noticed Clydeâs low spirits and asked, âIsnât Naylor the leader of your group? Why does it seem like you all follow Astridâs orders?â
Clyde was taken aback by the question.
Before he could respond, Bernice admitted she had lied about watching their live stream. If she had watched it, she would have known why they all listened to Astrid.
But he didnât call Bernice out on her lie. Instead, he replied, âAstrid knows a lot of useful stuff. She caught a shark when we first arrived on the island, then a snake. If it werenât for her, we wouldnât have any meat to eat. Itâs only natural we listen to her.â
Catch a shark? A snake?
Bernice was surprised when she heard about the shark and the snake, but she quickly masked her surprise. âIâve always known sheâs capable. But do you think sheâs a good match for Mr. Lampard?â
âWhat?â Clyde was bewildered by her question and frowned a little. âWhatever is happening between Astrid and Mr. Lampard is their private business. Itâs better for us outsiders not to pry.â
âSure, but if Mr. Lampard knew about Astridâs past...â Bernice trailed off, then gave an awkward laugh. âNever mind, letâs head back.â
She didnât say all she should supposed to say.
But her words left room for imagination among the netizens.
Comment: [What does Bernice mean by that? Did Astrid have any dark secret?]
[What? Did Astrid have a relationship with a rich guy in the past that Mr Lampard doesnât know about?]
[Astrid has always had great resources ever since she debuted, itâs almost like sheâs cheating. And itâs strange, that Dale, a top manager in the country,â would abandon his previous clients to manage a newcomer like her!]
[Bernice has a wide network in the industry, she must know something!]
[Bernice only worked with Astrid once, and she was only a guest role. Everyone has their secrets, but sheâs spreading vague rumors. Itâs too much. If you have something to say, just spill it!]
[Why is Astrid always the target of bad press?â]
It was getting dark.
Clyde sat on a rock in the cave, staring at the front, and his stomach was growling.
âClyde! Come help!â Parrishâs voice echoed from the forest, and Clyde immediately jumped off the rock and ran towards him.
Seeing everyone carrying loads of stuff, Clyde couldnât hide his joy. âAlthough thereâs no meat, at least we wonât starve.â
âWeâll have to make do tonight.â Astrid handed over the items to Clyde, then rubbed her sore arm. âI found some rainwater in a rock pit and collected it. Itâs not much, but if we ration it, it should be enough for tonight.â
âYouâre amazing, Astrid!â Clyde said, grinning as he carried the food off. Astrid, exhausted, sat down on a rock by the cave entrance to rest.
After a few minutes, she noticed someone sit down beside her. It was Bernice.
Bernice looked at the sky and asked nonchalantly, âAstrid, have you made up your mind?â

But Astrid did. She knew Bernice was referring to the situation with Elio.
Astrid glanced at Bernice, then turned back to the night sky. âAuntie Bernice, you should mind your own business.â
Bernice was taken aback.
She didnât expect Astrid to answer like that. She turned to look at Astridâs beautiful profile and burst out laughing. âYouâre so much like your mother.
Not just in looks, but in personality too.â
âMaybe youâll end up walking the same path as her.â
