Chapter 488: 487 I want to hear the truth
Flash Marriage: He is a Wife-pampering Addict
Wen Ran gazed out of the car. Outside, Wen Jin stood tall in the afterglow of the setting sun. Half of his handsome face was bathed in a golden glow, while the other half was shrouded in shadow, emphasizing his striking facial features even more.
Seeing her look up, he smiled warmly at her with a fond look in his dark eyes. His lips raised slightly at the corners, reaching out a long, fair-skinned hand to her. Wen Ran pursed her lips, bent over and climbed out of the car.
Wen Jin caught her small hand, holding it tenderly in his warm palm. He spoke with a smile, âRan Ran, you rarely come back. This time, spend a bit longer at home.â
The two walked into the living room, Auntie Li had just come out from the kitchen. Upon seeing Wen Ran, Auntie Li was overjoyed.
However, her smile froze as soon as she saw the redness and swelling around Wen Ranâs eyes.
She quickly approached with a concerned expression, looked intently at Wen Ran, and asked anxiously, âWhat happened to you, Ran Ran? Who bullied you?â
Wen Jin glanced at the concerned Auntie Li and then at Wen Ran. Instead of answering Auntie Liâs question, he reassured her, âAuntie Li, Ran Ran will be staying here for a few days. Make some dishes that Ran Ran loves tonight. Iâll take her upstairs to rest for a while.â
âOh, alright!â
Auntie Liâs eyes flashed with confusion, seeing Wen Ranâs miserable and heartbroken face, she didnât dare to ask more.
âRan Ran, let me take you to your room.â
Wen Jin gently laid his arm over Wen Ranâs shoulder, she nodded, too desolate to greet Auntie Li. She followed Wen Jin upstairs and returned to her room.
Even though she hadnât lived here for months, her room was still spotless, and her bed was neatly made.
As if everything was the same, she stood at the doorway, staring at her room, there was a brief moment of disorientation, it felt like she had just slept here last night.
âRan Ran, go to bed and get some good sleep.â
Wen Ran raised her head, looking at Wen Jinâs handsome and gentle face, she asked with a whisper, âBrother, youâve known for a while, havenât you?â
Wen Jinâs eyes flickered slightly before he responded with a soft smile. He placed his hand on her shoulder, urging her to enter the room. He spoke gently, âRan Ran, letâs talk after youâve rested. Iâll tell you everything you want to know, alright?â
âIâm not sleepy, Brother, I want to know the truth now, right now.â
Wen Ran tried to suppress the sadness in her heart, attempting to keep her voice steady.
She didnât want to be kept in the dark anymore. Since Wen Jin knew the truth, and everyone else had known the truth long ago. Would their version of the truth be different from what Fu Jingyi had said?
Deep down, she still clung to a glimmer of hope that what Fu Jingyi said wasnât true.
Moreover, after a long journey of thought, she had calmed down substantially, not like the emotionally overwrought mess she had been earlier at the hotel.
She could carefully think about what Fu Jingyi had said, and she could listen to Wen Jinâs truth with a calm mind.
Seeing the plea in her eyes, Wen Jin fell silent for a moment before finally agreeing with a reluctant nod.
He walked her to the sofa, sat her down on the fabric-covered couch, and sat next to her. He took a light breath, met her gaze with a warm look, and said slowly, âRan Ran, can you first tell me who phoned you?â
At his words, Wen Ran shuddered slightly.
Wen Jinâs gaze grew stricter. From her slight change in expression and trembling, he could guess a name. On seeing her eyes, his own reflected complexity.
âHe said, heâs Fu Jingyi.â
Wen Ran tried to keep her voice as steady as possible, forcing herself to calm down.
She knew they wouldnât believe her if she claimed not to know who the caller was.
Therefore, if she didnât say, they would continue to ask. Another reason was, by telling Wen Jin that it was Fu Jingyi who phoned her, there was no way he could keep hiding what he knew from her.
She wanted to know the entire truth: just how long they had concealed it, how much they had hidden, and the exact extent of her current situationâ¦
Upon hearing her words, Wen Jinâs complexion changed. His gaze, steady on Wen Ran, asked the same question with a hint of shock, âFu Jingyi?â
Although he had already speculated as much, he was still surprised, perhaps subconsciously hoping he was wrong.
âUh huh.â
Wen Ran nodded, her bright eyes unwavering as they stared at Wen Jin.
He was very surprised but she guessed he wasnât that shocked. It crossed her mind that Fu Jingyi might have contacted him before this.
She guessed correctly.
Last time, Fu Jingyi had called her father Gu Yan. Whatever he had said to Gu Yan, he had said the same to Wen Ran today, and even more.
Wen Jin released a heavy sigh: So it really was that psychopath Fu Jingyi who had called her, no wonder she had driven Mo Xiuchen away.
âBrother!â
Wen Ran waited for a moment, but when Wen Jin remained silent, her heart sank. She softly called him.
Wen Jin suppressed the shock and speculation brewing within him. His attractive eyebrows creased slightly and he spoke in a soft yet strained voice, âRan Ran, what the paper wrote isnât completely true. Director Gu is working on a method to cure your illness.â
A bitter smile spread over Wen Ranâs face. The melancholy undertone in her soft voice responded, âBrother, you donât have to comfort me. I want the truth. Knew about it before anyone else, didnât you?â
âYes.â
Wen Jin pursed his lips and admitted the truth.
Wen Ran clenched her small hands tight, before asking, âWhen did you find out?â
âBack then, when Dad saved you, you were severely injured. He took you to the hospital, and the doctors did some tests and found out about some conditions.â
Wen Ranâs face paled instantly. Seeing her suddenly pale face, Wen Jin felt a pang of pain in his heart.
âRan Ran, the medical field wasnât as advanced then vs. now. The results that came out then were just estimations, even the doctors werenât very sureâ¦â
Part of Wen Jinâs words were true while part of them were consoling.
Wen Ranâs body stiffened. Her hands and feet, ice-cold.
âSo, you were the one who told Mo Xiuchen and Older Brother Gu?â
Her voice choked slightly when she spoke again, causing Wen Jinâs heart to clench. He saw the moisture gathering in her eyes, and his own were troubled. He continued, âOriginally, I didnât know you were Gu Kaiâs sister, and I had no intention of revealing your identity to anyone else. But Gu Kai and Mo Xiuchen, relying on intuition, believed that you were the person they were looking for.â
âBecause of that, Gu Kai even conducted a DNA test on your hair. That day, when they approached me together, I told them about your background.â
Wen Jinâs gaze swept over Wen Ranâs tightly clenched hands. His brow furrowed, and he reached out to hold one of her hands, soothing her softly, âRan Ran, let go of your hand.â
ââ¦â
