Chapter 743: Hate the previous secretary
Flash Marriage: He is a Wife-pampering Addict
Wen Ran was under the impression that Mo Xiuchen was clarifying things to her.
Such a dreadful thought triggered a surge of emotions in her, causing her hand which held the phone to tighten.
A sense of joy began to blossom in her heart.
It quickly spread to every single cell of her body.
Just one message made her world filled with the brilliance and warmth of spring.
She knew that Cheng Jia stayed with him not only as his fiancée, but also as his secretary.
Now, he told her that he had changed his secretary and was in a good mood.
She couldnât ignore the implication that he was explaining, hinting, and even testing her.
She stared at her phone, wondering whether she should reply and what to say.
Her Mo Xiuchen was too clever and she feared that she might say something wrong and sow doubt in his heart.
From the moment he called her, he seemed convinced of something.
Thus came the first cryptic message, which was still incomprehensible despite the passage of time.
If someone else had sent her such a message, she would think them crazy.
But this was from Mo Xiuchen, the man she loved deeply. The mere fact that he could remember her number despite his memory lossâ¦
Made her so tender-hearted, like a tranquil lake.
What was even worse, she couldnât resist.
Whenever she received his messages, she wanted to reply as soon as possible.
Even if she couldnât tell him that she was his Ranran, his beloved, she still hoped to give him some warmth.
To lessen his loneliness in a foreign country.
She pursed her lips, took a deep breath, and began to craft her reply on the screen.
She wrote and deleted, rewrote and deleted again. She revised her message five or six times.
Finally, she was left with four words: âAs long as You are Happy.â
This was her utmost wish â for him to be happy.
She clicked the send button, watching the message go out. Her heart fluttered with anticipation, hoping for another reply from him.
However, given her past experience, she didnât think he would reply immediately.
Maybe he would reply in an hour, or maybe in a day.
This seemingly indifferent communication style . . .
Wasnât it meant to prolong their conversation? Making their hearts long for each other in the intervals between the replies.
The deep night in D Country did not grant peace to its downtown areas.
Mo Xiuchen stood with his hands behind his back in front of a floor-length window, only separated from the outside world by a sheet of glass. He gazed solemnly into the sky.
The sound of a new message came from behind him.
He turned his head to look at the phone on the bedside table. A soft warmth settled in his deep, lonely eyes.
Without any hesitation, he walked back to his bed and picked up the phone to read the message.
The content of her reply was within his expectation.
The phrase âAs long as You are Happyâ met his eyes.
Mo Xiuchenâs lips curved slightly, his aristocratic and cold features softened, and he was in a good mood.
He stared at her message, and the more he read it, the more amusing he found it. Eventually, he couldnât help but chuckle.
If he wasnât mistaken, she must have thought carefully before replying to those four words.
It left him guessing whether she knew him beforehand.
No matter whether she knew him or not, it wasnât important.
This was a number that he remembered in his dreams after his memory loss. Even if they didnât know each other before, it didnât matter.
He clearly knew that he enjoyed chatting with this woman whose face he hadnât seen but heard her voice.
That alone was enough.
He swiftly typed another reply, âI very much disliked the previous secretary, Iâve booked a flight for her tomorrow to return to the country. She wonât be in my sight for quite some time, and that indeed is a joyful thing.â
This time, his message was longer; he wanted to see how she would respond.
Would she always carefully choose her words, only to provide information that revealed nothing?
Wen Ran didnât expect Mo Xiuchen to reply so quickly, and with such a long message.
Seeing him say that he despised the previous secretary reminded her of a similar statement he made half a year ago.
Back then, she admitted she disliked Cheng Jia, and he told her he didnât like Cheng Jia either.
She was surprised at the time. Later, he added âif I were to like someone, it would only be youâ.
Those words had likely been what struck a chord in her.
She hadnât expected that, after all this time, his words about Cheng Jia remained the same â he despised her, he didnât like her.
Wen Ran didnât reply to that message, yet her mood remained lifted for the entire day.
In the afternoon, just before work ended, An Lin came to her office and asked her out for dinner.
Seeing Wen Ran with a foolish smile on her face, she was taken aback and asked curiously, âRanran, what are you looking at, to make you smile so gently?â
An Lin had entered directly, but Wen Ran was too engrossed in her phone to hear the door open.
Greeting An Linâs voice unexpectedly, she quickly looked up. Seeing her approach in high heels, she put away her phone and calmly replied, âJust reading a joke.â
An Lin eyed her skeptically, âReally? Your smile while reading a joke is so gentle?â
âGentle? You must have misunderstood.â
Wen Ran raised her eyebrows and chuckled lightly.
âPerhaps. By the way, Ranran, letâs have dinner together tonight. Iâve already spoken to Ah Mu and Ah Feng. Ah Mu asked me to invite you.â
An Lin walked over to her desk, leaning on it slightly, and looked at her with a bright smile.
Rarely did they all have no other engagements in the evening.
âNo problem.â
Wen Ran blinked her eyes. Not having to work overtime, it didnât matter if she didnât return to her apartment early.
Seeing her agree, An Linâs smile became even brighter, âRanran, Iâll call Ah Mu now to tell him that youâve agreed.â
Hearing this, Wen Ran felt something was off.
She looked confused as An Lin took out her phone. While dialing, she explained, âAh Mu told me earlier that you must be tired from work and advised me not to drag you out.â
Of course, An Lin was not the type of person who would be easily discouraged. Unable to out-argue Ah Mu, she decided to discuss it with Wen Ran instead.
The call connected after two rings and Ah Muâs voice came through, a single, monotone, âHello.â
Compared to Ah Muâs calm and deep voice, An Linâs tone was far more cheerful, âAh Mu, Iâve talked to Ranran. She agreed to go out tonight. You and Ah Feng are not allowed to run off.â
Go out?
Watching An Lin grin triumphantly, Wen Ran realized she had been tricked.
What she had agreed to was to go out for dinner. How had it turned into going out for fun?
After hanging up, An Lin chuckled and said, âRanran, Ah Mu and Ah Feng will also be there. Iâve arranged everything. Weâll have dinner first, and then go for karaokeâ¦â
