Chapter 1501
Monarch of Evernight
Ye replied, âThereâs no way Iâd know.â
Xu Ran wasnât as cold as he was before at this point. âYouâve been here for fifty years. Give it some thought, what is the rarest thing in this world?â
The lady replied, âThe River of Blood!â
Xu Ran nodded. âExactly! A divine entity that can traverse worlds is rare even in Immortal Heaven. Who wouldâve thought there would be one in this remote land? This is a great fortune for me!â
âYou mean...â
âWe must collect it when we return. That way, our trip wonât be wasted.â
Jian said, âIf that is your plan, why would you draw the trajectory closer?â
Xu Ran said, âThatâs because, according to my calculations, itâs only on this trajectory that we can pry open the riverâs foundation. Also, we will be able to leave some inhabitable continents. That way, we can report the matter and use these merits to absolve the clansâ crimes.â
Ye asked, âWhy do we still need to report this matter? Is the River of Blood not enough?â
âOf course itâs enough! More than enough. But thereâs no way weâll hand over such a divine entity. Once I manage to solve the Riverâs profound secrets, Iâll share the benefits with you two. It might be possible to obtain three thousand years of lifespan haha!â
Visibly moved, the two subordinates thanked him in unison.
âDo your job well. I wonât mistreat you if I take a step forward.â
Jian and Ye expressed their gratitude once more before excusing themselves.
The Radiant Emperor was still waiting at the door. Seeing the two emerge, he said with cupped hands, âEmissaries, if you have some time, Iâd like to invite you to enjoy some food and wine. On one hand, Iâd love to express my hospitality, and on the other, Iâd also like to hear more about the Immortal Heaven.â
Jian was a bit hesitant, but Ye nodded readily. Seeing this, the man shrugged and followed the others.
A night banquet in the Imperial Palace was of a fairly high standard. The man was soon relaxed as he enjoyed the food and wine. He was looking a bit tipsy after finishing several jars of wine.
The Radiant Emperor saw that the time was right. âI heard the emissary mention that we would need to make meritorious contributions in order to be absolved of our crimes.â
âOf course! Unsealing your spiritual wisdom is just the first step. The second step is to accumulate sufficient merits. Thatâs the only way we can gain a foothold in Immortal Heaven.â
Ye interrupted, âYou donât need to have merits on arrival. You can serve in the dao court after your return and work off your crime.â
âThatâs good.â The Radiant Emperor seemed much more relaxed. âHow do we return to the Immortal Heaven?â
Jian said, âWith us, of course. You can pick a batch of talented people to return along with you. The others will have to wait here.â
âHow many can I bring?â
Jian said after some thought, âTen thousand is the limit.â
Ye glared at him, saying, âTen thousand is the absolute cap. I donât think Emissary Xu will let you bring that many people. I think you should pick one thousand to be conservative.â
âOne thousand... I see, I understand.â
...
Void Continent, Indomitable.
Qianye fiddled silently with his glass.
The Spider Queen was gazing at Qianye with a rare expression of seriousness. Song Zining, on the other hand, was seated rather comfortably as though he didnât really care about anything.
Little Zhuji was already asleep in Qianyeâs arms.
A while later, Qianye said, âOne side has opened a tunnel to the inner world and is drawing in the darkness origins. The other side is summoning a sun. What is wrong with this world?â
The Spider Queen smiled wryly. âThe plan to draw in the darkness origins was our retaliation. We didnât know what was happening back then, but we knew that a disaster was coming. Under those circumstances, the Demon King and the Queen of the Night decided that the only way to avert this calamity was to wipe out the humans.â
Song Zining nodded. âCounting from the very beginning, the human race and Evernight have been tangled for thousands of years. Itâs finally time to settle things. This day was destined since the Chronicle of Glory was activated a thousand years ago, except it arrived a bit sooner.â
âEverything was caused by the humans!â the Spider Queen said.
âWithout the Chronicle of Glory, wouldnât we continue being your food and slaves for another ten thousand years?â Even before a supreme, Song Zining had no intention of backing off.
âThe weak are food for the strong, that is nature.â
âThat is true, but now the rise of the human race is a certainty. Why donât you guys just die willingly? Why are you complaining?â
The Spider Queen was furious. âSuch insolence! Are you courting death?!â
âEven if I die now, the radiant sun will arrive tomorrow. How long can you live then?â Song Zining sneered.
Seeing the deadlock before him, Qianye said helplessly, âLetâs quit the fighting. We have only one day left, why are you guys here instead of preparing for battle?â
The Spider Queen said, âItâs because we are on the verge of destruction that we require every supreme we can get. Do you think they will let you go after the sun arrives? Youâre the first drop of the riverâs blood.â
Qianye glanced at Song Zining. âWhat will happen if we stop the Chronicle of Glory?â
âWithout the Immortal Ancestral Landâs support, we will enter a state of backlash after our surging fortune dies out. What do you think will happen?â Song Zining replied with a question.
There was no need to reply because it was so evident. The human race would die out in less than fifty years, even without the darkness origins.
Qianye smiled ruefully; now, this was a difficult dilemma. If he didnât stop the Chronicle of Glory, Evernight would be wiped out. If he did, the humans would not survive. More importantly, the human raceâs desire to return to their ancestral land would be completely destroyed.
There was one more question. Could he even stop it if he wanted to?
The Spider Queen said coldly, âThis world was ours, to begin with. You people came from the outside and now you want to wipe out the sacred races. How dare you make this sound so right and proper?â
âWhat does all of this have to do with me? If worse comes to worst, Iâll just look for a new world somewhere.â Qianye felt annoyed.
âYou canât escape. Marshal Lin left a message saying that you are the key to the Chronicle of Glory,â Song Zining said.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
âWhy am I the key?â Qianye chuckled.
Song Zining gazed at him for a while but said nothing.
Qianye glanced between the Spider Queen and Song Zining. He then rubbed Zhujiâs head, saying, âZining, just be frank. What do you suggest?â
âThere is one way.â
âWhat is it?â Qianye asked.
The space behind the Spider Queen began to fluctuate as she prepared to attack. She would rather destroy this enemy first if Song Zining said something she didnât like.
The latter paid no heed to the potential danger. âDo you know why you would always run into various twists and turns of unexpected opportunities, why you always have this feeling of inevitability?â
âI donât know.â
âVery well! Since you asked me, Iâll tell you what I think. If I were you, I would rather proclaim myself king instead of ascending the Sacred Mountain.â
âWhat?â the Spider Queen cried out in surprise.
