Contract Marriage With The Disabled CEO
Chapter 51 Medical Bills âNothing,â Kerwin said calmly and handed a plate of bread to Betty. âHave breakfast.â
Betty wasnât bothered. She sat down and her mind wandered to her momâs medical fees when having breakfast.
Kerwin glanced at Bettyâs knitted brows from time to time. Now he knew what troubled her all the time.
Kerwin put a fried egg on Bettyâs plate and said in an undertone, âBetty, we can find a good time to visit your mom.â
Betty froze for a moment. She looked up at Kerwin hastily and met his gaze.
âNo, no needâ¦â She shifted her gaze. âMy mom is in bad condition. She needs a quiet rest.â
Bettyâs words were ambiguous. She said nothing about her momâs severe illness or medical fees.
Kerwinâs eyes turned sharp.
In his life, he had met different types of women, like women who played with him for fun or ladies that came from noble families. However, all of them would reveal their softness and weakness, to make him show care for them.
Betty and those women were poles apart.
Though they were married, she had never asked him for anything. To be exact, she was trying to avoid getting anything from him.
The fact that she distanced herself from him on purpose annoyed Kerwin.
âReally?â Kerwinâs voice got colder. âThen I hope your mom recovers soon.â
Betty frowned slightly.
Did I say something wrong? Why does he look unhappy?
But she didnât ask him about it. She had breakfast quietly with her head down. Then Kerwin took her to the subway station quietly.
When she arrived at the magazine by subway, she didnât go to her desk but went to the accounting office, begging the staff there to advance her one monthâs pay.
The bad news was she could only get an advance on the next-next monthâs pay as she had got next monthâs pay.
Lisa looked at Betty awkwardly.
âBetty, we know you have a hard time. We want to help you, but we canât decide it.â
Bettyâs eyes dimmed. When she was about to say something, a cold voice sounded from behind her.
âMs.White, itâs working time. You should prepare for the interview this afternoon. What are you doing here?â
Betty felt a sense of foreboding when she heard the voice. She turned her head reluctantly and saw Jeffrey standing behind her and glaring at her.
âI have some business here.â Betty didnât want to talk with Jeffrey at all. She answered briefly and walked out of the accounting office hurriedly.
When she reached the corridor, Jeffrey caught up with her, grabbed her by the wrist, and pushed her against the wall.
âJeffrey Martin, what are you doing?â fear that the staff in the accounting office heard her voice, she asked in a low voice.
âNothing.â Jeffrey curled up his lip contemptuously, staring down at Betty. âIâm wondering, why my fianceeâs sister wants to get paid in advance over and over again.â
Betty realized her conversation with Lisa was heard by Jeffrey. She angrily rubbed her wrist that hurt and said nonchalantly, âJeffrey, Iâve told you before. I want to buy a luxury bag.â
Jeffrey laughed scornfully. âBetty White, I am not a fool!â
If Betty really craved that bag, Kerwin would buy it for her, since Kerwin cared about her so much.
She racked her brains to get an advance on her pay. Jeffrey guessed she used the money to solve something that had to be hidden from Kerwin.
After he came through, he curved his lips into a cruel smile and suddenly cornered her by placing his hands on the wall.
âJeffrey, whatâs wrong with you?!â Betty was startled.
âBetty, seems you need the money badly.â Jeffrey bent to get close to Betty. âA monthâs pay⦠I guess, you need 10,000 dollars?â
Betty frowned. âItâs none of your business.â
Then, she tried to push Jeffrey. However, she came to a stop when hearing his next sentence.
âWell, you sleep with me tonight. I give you 10,000 dollars. Deal?â
Betty looked up at Jeffrey incredulously and saw the mocking smile spread across his face.
âWhat do you think?â Jeffrey looked down at Bellyâs pale face, feeling fidgeted. However, his anger rose when he thought about how she and Kerwin displayed affection in public. âLet me remind you, 10,000 dollars for a night is much higher than other whoresâ pay. Itâs a no-lose deal for you.â
With that, Jeffrey suddenly thought about something and curled his lips in disdain. âIf my memory serves me right, your first night is worth 10,000 dollars. But that was two years ago. Maybe youâve been f*cked by countless men. Iâm still willing to pay you that much. You should be gratefulâ¦â
Slap!
Before Jeffrey finished his words, Betty could no longer stand his mockery. She raised her hand and slapped Jefferyâs face fiercely.
Jeffrey was dumbfounded by Bettyâs slap. He covered his face and looked down at her in astonishment.
He saw Bettyâs face turn red with anger and tears welling up in her eyes. But she gritted her teeth hard to hold back the tears.
Jeffrey felt so much pain at her pitiful look Though his original intention was to hurt Betty, he only felt sorrowful and heartbroken when seeing her pathetic expressions.
Fighting back the tears, Betty glared at Jeffrey and said through her teeth.
âJeffrey Martin, Iâm f*cking regretful for having loved you!â
Without looking at him, she shook off his hand and left the corridor swiftly.
Jeffrey was left there. He stood still and looked like a soulless puppet. After some time, Lisa went out of the office and saw Jeffrey standing still.
âMr. Martin?â Lisa was taken by surprise.
Only then did Jeffrey come to himself. He looked at Lisa and asked, âLisa, do you know why Betty wants to get paid in advance?â
Lisa felt it hard to talk about Bettyâs privacy, but she didnât dare lie to Jeffrey, as he was his supervisor.
âBettyâs mom is sick, so she needs money to pay the medical fees. Mr. Martin, please donât get mad at her.â
Sick? Medical fees?
Jeffrey was dumbfounded at such an unexpected answer.
