Contract Marriage With The Disabled CEO
Chapter 59 Would You Marry Me Not expecting Kerwin to have such a violent reaction. Sherry was startled, but she continued, âI was shocked when I heard it. Ah, Jeffrey, where are you going?â
Before Sherry finished, Jeffrey left the ward quickly and drove all the way back to the company.
Betty, in the company, was eating a sandwich with Sarah in the coffee room. Betty swiped her phone while eating. Sarah, on the other hand, was absent-minded and glanced at Betty from time to time.
âWhat do you want to know?â Betty noticed Sarahâs strange looks a while ago, so she said bluntly without raising her head.
Sarah blushed suddenly and asked with some awkwardness in her voice, âI⦠Nothing. Itâs just that I heard some rumors in the company recentlyâ¦â
âRumors about me and Jeffrey, right?â Betty raised her eyebrows.
âEhh, I heard something about your past.â Biting her lip, Sarah finally summoned her courage. âWell, Lydia and I saw you getting off a luxury car. I also noticed something weird between you and Jeffrey.
Lydia has a friend from Yale University. She said, she saidâ¦â
âYale University.â Struck heavily on Bettyâs heart like a hammer.
She left Washington for Chicago because she wanted to get rid of her past and her bad reputation.
But the past was like a black mark against Betty. No matter where she went, there would always be people mentioning it and opening her old wound.
Finishing her last bite, Betty smiled casually, âWhat did she say? Did they say that I provide sexual services to men when I was a student? Or I have been with Jeffrey before.â
Sarah didnât expect Betty to be so blunt. She looked more embarrassed and said, âBetty, of course I believe you. You would never do that.â
Sarahâs remarks warmed Bettyâs heart a bit, âThank you, Sarah.â
On her way back office, Betty found that many colleagues were still gossiping about her.
Betty smiled casually.
She could not bear the slander and abuse two years ago. But now, she grew up and became strong.
She knew that she couldnât escape from her past or the people judging her. After all, she didnât do anything wrong. So she didnât care what others said about her anymore.
Thinking of this, Betty sat down and decided to prepare for tomorrowâs interview. Unexpectedly, she suddenly heard a bang. A man rushed into her office.
Betty raised her head in surprise and found that it was Jeffrey, looking quite angry. He rushed to her desk and shouted, âBetty, come to my office now.â
Betty frowned and just wanted to refuse. But Jeffrey turned around and returned to his office in a hurry, leaving her no time to say no.
People around gave strange looks at Betty. Lydia even mocked Betty directly, âOh, the editor in charge may want to get back together with you. He must value your old love. But you cheated on him again and again, didnât you?â
Betty cast a stern glance at Lydia and walked to Jeffreyâs office.
Betty came in and saw Jeffrey walking back and forth quickly in the office.
Betty remembered that Jeffrey also walked back and forth like this before an examination or when he felt excited during school days.
âMr. Martin.â Betty broke the silence, âWhy get me here?â
Jeffrey paused suddenly, stared at Betty, and finally opened his mouth as if he summoned all his courage, âBetty, oh, should I call you aunt Betty?â
Betty turned pale instantly as if she was struck by thunder.
âYou⦠How do youâ¦â Bettyâs lips shivered. Before she finished, Jeffrey rushed to her, grabbed her shoulder violently, and interrupted her.
âHow did I know? It doesnât matter!â Seeing that Betty didnât deny it, Jeffrey knew that what Sherry told him was true, which made him angrier. âWhy didnât you tell me? Do you think I am a fool to play around with?â.
Thinking that he even brought Betty to interview Kerwin and mentioned Kerwinâs wife, Jeffrey thought that he was the most stupid man in the world. Jeffrey couldnât help feeling that he was a great joke from the beginning.
Jeffrey kept a hard grip on Bettyâs arm. Betty turned paler because of the pain. She couldnât stand it anymore and shouted, âJeffrey. Calm down. I didnât want to hide this from you. Besides, you never asked me.â
Looking at Bettyâs twisted face because of pain, Jeffrey finally calmed down a little.
He suddenly relaxed his grip on Bettyâs arms and flopped onto the sofa. His hands grabbing his hair, he muttered, âWhy⦠Why did you marry Kerwin⦠Why did you betray me two years agoâ¦â
Looking at Jeffrey suffering in agony, Betty felt that her heart ached.
She still remembered that Jeffrey, in a white shirt, on a bicycle, waited for her at the dormitory in college. He brought her warm and fresh breakfast, smiled brightly at her, and greeted her, âGood morning, Betty.â
Even Betty herself couldnât understand what happened to them that they grew apart and tortured each other.
Betty bit her lips and held back the tears in her eyes.
She used to think that she hated Jeffrey. But seeing him like this, she realized that she didnât hate him that much.
Jeffrey did suffer too much for Betty. He was in pain because of her. He gave his heart to her. He loved her.
Betty opened her mouth and wanted to comfort Jeffrey. She wanted to tell him that she didnât betray him two years ago. But she got stopped by Jeffreyâs harsh remarks.
âBetty.â Jeffrey suddenly raised his head. His black eyes turned red because of anger. âDo you love money that much? You can even marry a disabled man for money.â
Betty, looking ghastly pale, said in a trembling voice,â Say it again.â
âYou can do anything for money, even marrying a disabled man.â Jeffrey stood up and approached Betty suddenly. âDid you betray me for money? Then you hooked up with my uncle because of his money, too. Betty, you are a shameless bitch.â
Staring at Jeffrey, Betty felt that she didnât know Jeffrey at all.
âDid I say it wrong? Betty? Answer me.â Seeing Betty remaining silent, Jeffrey came closer to her. âIf you knew that I am the young master of the Martin family, would you marry me?â
