Chapter 24
The Heir
âSO, is this how you treat people?â the butler asked the sales assistant, who still looked mortified. âJudging them by how they look from the outside?â
The sales assistant clasped her hands together. âI am really, really sorry. I didnât knowââ
âYou didnât know because instead of asking, you judged him so easily and asked the guards to threw him out.â Wilfred sounded so calm, yet his words cut like a knife. âAnd I do hope that you know the price you have to pay sooner. I am not letting you off the hook.â
âS-sir, I...â
The sales assistant tried to reach Maximilianâs hands, but he moved away.
âWhere is your boss?â Wilfred asked sternly. âWe would like a word with the owner.â
A beautiful, sophisticated woman appeared from the door behind the counter and came over.
âExcuse me,â the woman said. âWhat is going on here?â
Maximilian and Wilfred turned to the woman.
âAre you the owner?â Wilfred asked politely.
âAh, no. I am the storeâs manager. I can escort you to the boss. But first, I want to know what is going on here,â the woman told them.
âWell, your staff here humiliated my young master in front of everyone. We would like to talk to the boss, personally,â Wilfred informed the store manager.
âO-oh... I see.â The store manager scowled at the sales assistant and turned to them again. âI am sorry about that. I will let the boss know about this.â
âIt would be good if we can talk with the boss,â said Wilfred.
âOf course, you will. Please wait a moment.â The store manager grasped the sales assistantâs arm and tugged her.
Maximilian heard the two having a heated discussion as they walked away from them.
âWill you forgive that sales assistant, Young Master?â Wilfred asked afterward.
âWhat do you think, Wilfred? Should I or should I not?â He pocketed his hands and turned in his direction.
The butler looked at him for a while and shrugged.
âI have no right to interfere with your decisions, Young Master. I am here to follow whatever you asked me to do because itâs what I am paid for.â
Wilfred told him. He put his hands behind him and bowed.
Maximilian knew he was just a mere human, and he must forgive. That was what his foster mother had always told him. But then a voice at the back of his head kept telling him that he must also teach people a lesson, especially now that he has the means of doing so. He might not be able to punish all the bad guys out there, but at least, he could do that to those who do him and his wife wrong.
âYou know what, I realized there are people who deserve forgiveness, and there are some who do not. With the kind of life that I have lived so far, I learned to know what people deserve by how they treated me.â
âThe boss will see you now,â the store manager informed them when she returned.
âGreat,â Maximilian said and followed her to the bossâs office.
A middle-aged woman dressed finely wearing a complete set of expensive jewelry welcomed them when they went inside the office. It was just her and the sales assistant who humiliated Maximilian, so he assumed it was the jewelry store owner.
âHello... let me introduce myself, misters. Iâm Olivia, the owner.â The woman smiled warmly and shook hands with them. âPlease, have a seat.â
Maximilian sat on the chair across from the store owner while the butler stood next to his seat. He then turned his gaze to the sales assistant that humiliated him, who looked anxious as she sat beside the boss. It was funny how can some people act as if they were mighty and then tucked their tails between their legs after knowing what the other party was capable of.
He turned to the store owner afterward.
âWell, I guess your store manager had briefed you about what happened earlier.â Maximilian cocked his head to the side.
âUhm... yes. I already heard about what happened.â Olivia heaved a sigh. âI know what my employee did was wrong, so I want to apologize. We are not tolerating that kind of attitude.â
âYeah, you shouldnât tolerate such attitude. Itâs bad for the business.â He nodded consecutively.
The sales assistant stood up and bowed. âAgain, I am sorry.â
Maximilian just looked at her as she exited the bossâs office.
âI hope this incident would not affect our store as a whole. My other employees arenât like that,â said Olivia. âAnd I do hope that we will see you again in the future. We will be glad to serve you.â

âI already fired her.â
