Chapter 127
The Understated Dragon Lord
Chapter 127 Alone
Jessicaâs stance left Andrew in shock. In his mind, Daniel, that country boy, was nothing more than an assistant. How could Jessica take such offense to him being scorned?
After the initial surprise, Andrew figured it out. He reasoned that Jessica was likely trying to protect her own reputation. After all, the Matthews were the top family in New York, and Jessica was its heir apparent. Andrewâs insults to her assistant might as well have been directed at her.
Nevertheless, Andrew was convinced Daniel wouldnât stick around Jessica forever. He was determined to make Daniel understand the meaning of pain the next time he found him on his own.
To appease Jessica, Andrew promptly apologized to Daniel. Iâm sorry, Daniel. I shouldnât have called you a jerk in front of Jessica. I had no idea we still lived in an era where I should consider whether the person Iâm insulting is someone elseâs property.â
Andrewâs words were hardly apologetic it was another dig at Daniel. But Daniel brushed it off with a chuckle, replying magnanimously, âItâs fine. Nonetheless, I have some advice for you, Andrew. If you must insult me, do so when Jessicaâs not around. Itâs inconvenient for me to respond properly with her present.â
âYou mean, you would hit me?â
âWhere I come from, weâre not so bound by formalities. If someone disrespects us, we teach them
respect with our fists. When Jessicaâs around, Iâm her assistant and I wonât follow rural rules. But if sheâs not, then I stand for myself and nobody else.
So, Andrew, if you donât want to get hit, youâd best provoke me when Jessica is present. When sheâs not there, youâd do well to steer clear!â
Danielâs words served not as a warning but as a friendly reminder. Andrew turned to Jessica with a smile and said, âJessica, you heard him. Heâs looking for trouble! If he ends up hurt or disabled when youâre not with him, donât blame me. Heâll have asked for it.â
âWhatever happens when Daniel is not with me, during his off hours, is a personal matter and has nothing to do with me,â Jessica declared.
Of course, Jessica had come to this conclusion after witnessing Danielâs capabilities at Ancient Mall. Considering that none of the proficient fighters from The Harrisons Martial Club could defeat Daniel, even
Jacob had to be courteous to him. Andrew thought he could beat Daniel? Jessica had no doubt Daniel
could incapacitate Andrew if provoked.
However, she still warned Daniel, âEven if itâs after hours, youâd better not kill anyone. A fight is a fight just make Andrew apologize. Donât take his life.â
âDonât worry, Jessica. Remember, Iâm a doctor, not a butcher. I save lives; I donât end them. Even if Andrew wants to fight, or sends others to do so, at worst, Iâll just give him a lesson. He wonât lose his life. At the very most, he might spend a few months in bed, then a few more in a wheelchair.â
Danielâs words were still a gentle reminder, cautioning Andrew that if he dared to bother Daniel when
Jessica wasnât around, the consequences would be as mentioned.

âSince Daniel has made himself clear, Iâll express my thoughts too. Our familyâs corporation has begun collaborating with some clubs from New York Martial United. When necessary, I might ask their members to spar with Daniel. Daniel, rest assured, I wonât be taking your life. At the worst, youâd just have to spend the second half of your life in a wheelchair,â Andrew mockingly retorted.
