I Love You Miss Genius ( Bonnie Shepard ) CHAPTER 268
I Love You, Miss Genius
Chapter 268
âWhy do you keep picking bones with Bonnie, Lorna? Did she do anything to deserve your aggression?â
âI appreciate that you bought a gift for me, Lorna. I love it. However, this has nothing to do with the fact that you attacked Bonnie verbally repeatedly. Sheâs part of my family. So, knock it off. Otherwise, I wonât hold back anymore.â
Lorna was pissed off on the inside, but she was doing what she could to keep a smile on her face. She directed her gaze past Avril and Mairi and fixed it on Bonnie.
âIâm not trying to make things difficult for you, Bonnie. Itâs just a question. Did you prepare a gift for Aunt Mairi or not? If you overlooked it, I have something I can lend you.â The sarcasm in her tone couldnât be clearer.
With that said, Bonnie had never once laid eyes on Lorna. Instead, she looked at Mairi and said, âIâve got something prepared for you, Mom.â
Fixing her gaze on Bonnie, Lorna was determined to see this through. âWhat on earth did Bonnie prepare for Aunt Mairi? Iâm so going to make fun of her if itâs something cheap. and worthless.â
âThank you, Bonnie. Iâm really glad I could call myself your mom.â Mairi pulled Bonnie into her arms and hugged her tightly.
weâre all very âAre you going to open it and check out the gift, Aunt Mairi? Come on, curious about the gift Bonnie prepared for you.â Lorna couldnât wait until Bonnie humiliated herself.
Mairi was irritated now. Just as she was going to defend her goddaughter, Bonnie stepped forward and said, âI handpicked this gift for you, Mom. Why donât you check it and see if you like it?â
âUmâ¦â Mairi frowned.
âItâll be fine, Mom. Iâm sure youâll love it. After all, the value of the gift doesnât matter. Itâs the thought that counts.â She smiled and looked at Mairi.
âYouâre right. Itâs the thought that counts. It doesnât matter what the gift is, I know Iâll like it. Alright. Itâs time to see what youâve handpicked for me, Bonnie.â
With that, Mairi opened the gift box and was astounded to see the large ginseng. She was
so shocked that it almost slipped from her hands and fell.
The rest of the guests noticed her reaction and leaned in close with a puzzled look on their faces. At the next second, though, they were petrified and stood as still as statues.
It was especially true for Avril. After all, she recognized this particular ginseng. She knew where It came from. âGood Heavens, Bonnie! Is this the same ginseng we saw at the auction a few days ago?â
What she said shocked everyone to their cores once more.
âJeezums! I heard that they sold the ginseng at a billion dollars eventually! Thatâs an Incredibly huge amount of money! Is she really going to give it away?â
âDo you think price is the only thing special about it? This ginseng has been around for a hundred years! Everyone coveted it, but it wasnât up for grabs previously. It would be nearly impossible to get your hands on it if it wasnât for Pyralisâs annual grand auction.â âThatâs right! You could even save your life when the situation calls for it!â
Listening to everyoneâs muttering, Lorna felt like someone had slapped her.
âBonnie mustâve done it deliberately. Otherwise, she wouldnât have also given ginseng to Aunt Mairi as a gift!â
By now, her puny ginseng had been put aside. It became worthless as soon as Bonnie produced her gift.
âWell⦠Itâs such an extravagant gift, Bonnie. I canât possibly take it.â The last thing Mairi expected from Bonnie was a ginseng worth a billion dollars.
Realizing that Mairi was about to return it to her, Bonnie reached out and stopped her godmother. âI handpicked it for you, Mom. Like I said a minute ago, the value of the gift doesnât matter. Itâs the thought that counts. If you donât accept it, Iâll take it that you donât like it.â
Mairi couldnât exactly decide. Turning sideways, she looked at Daken and said, âHoneyâ¦â
âTake it. Itâs Bonnieâs first time giving you a gift. Youâll break her heart if you turn it down.â Daken had a point. She had to accept it.
Later, Bonnie took Mairi aside and sat on the couch after the party was over and all the guests had left.
