Exasperated, Gresham glanced at Vera sidelong. “Let’s be fair. Bonnie might love making things up and lack common courtesy, but you can’t say she goes back on her promises.”

Vera silently recalled her interactions with Bonnie and realized Gresham might have a point. Gresham said, “Trina, tell us everything. Did you and Bonnie argue or something? She wouldn’t have gotten you expelled again without a good reason.”

Trina looked miserable as she stammered, “I–I, um… Bonnie and L… Uhh…”

“Out with it! Stop wasting my time.”

“Well…”

Gresham squinted and asked, “You went to the film set today, right? Did you run into her over there?”

Trina gulped, confirming her father’s suspicions. He pried, “What happened between you two on the film set?”

Trina felt conflicted and hesitant. She also regretted what had happened. She would not have blamed Bonnie if she had known it would come to this.

“Why aren’t you saying anything, Trina? I’ll get someone to discover the truth if you don’t talk. It won’t take long before I get to the bottom of it.” Gresham sounded solemn this time, no longer as affectionate as he usually was with his daughter.

Trina gritted her teeth and stared at her father pitifully. Gresham stared at her and then turned to his assistant beside him, saying, “Do it.”

“Right away, sir.”

“Wait, don’t do it! I–I’ll tell you everything!” Trina took a deep breath and told her father what had happened. However, she omitted certain parts. “I saw Bonnie at the film set and thought she was also there for the audition. I always feel inferior because I know she’s much prettier than me.

“Bonnie told me she was there for the audition, and it made me so nervous that I could barely remember my lines. I didn’t know she lied to me until after the auditions concluded.

Bonnie wasn’t there for the audition at all.

“I got mad and chased her for an explanation. I also asked why she didn’t want me to

succeed, and then she called Mr. Russell to expel me.

Vera stomped and roared, “Damn that Bonnie! She stepped over the line!”

Gresham rubbed his chin and stared at Trina, studying her expression. He felt she was hiding something and asked, “What was Bonnie doing at the film set if she wasn’t there for the audition?”

Trina froze, thinking, ‘I tried keeping the story simple and omitted certain parts. How can Dad still see a loophole?”

Why aren’t you speaking again, Trina?” Gresham’s voice was sterner now that he sensed something was wrong.

Even Vera felt something was amiss. “Hurry up and tell us, Trina!”

It seems I can no longer hide it. I must come clean, or Dad will discover the truth, and even Mom will hate me.”

“I didn’t find out about it until much later, but Bonnie’s the author of the novel they’re adapting for the TV drama.”

“What did you say?” Vera was slightly stunned. “She’s the author? What TV drama are you referring to?”

“U–Um, the one I auditioned for.” Trina stammered.

Before Vera could figure it out, her husband exclaimed in shock, “A–Are you telling us Bonnie is Jane Austin?! She’s the renowned novelist?!”

Vera’s eyes widened as she remembered seeing Bonnie typing away at lightning speed. The former was curious and asked Bonnie what she was doing. Bonnie told Vera she was writing a novel, and the latter believed it. After all, anyone could write a web novel.

Vera also remembered asking Bonnie about her pen name, and Bonnie told her it was Jane Austin. At that time, Vera took her phone and searched for that pen name online. Vera was surprised that it was a big–shot novelist’s name. Moreover, Jane was the wealthiest in the industry.

Vera was furious back then and immediately left Bonnie alone. The former did not want to waste her time with Bonnie and thought it was not the first time Bonnie lied.
