I Love You Miss Genius ( Bonnie Shepard ) CHAPTER 4
I Love You, Miss Genius
Chapter 4
Before Sigmund could finish, Bonnie stopped him by stepping on his foot.
âSheâs what?â Ivor asked, puzzled.
Ged was curious too.
Sigmund wanted to tell them who Bonnie really was, but she glared at him and wouldnât let him.
The old man cleared his throat. âSheâs⦠the girl I want you to marry! Besides, how could you say sheâs not good enough for you? Youâre 27. You should be grateful that she doesnât care how much older you are. And you should apologize to her for being so rude.â
Ivor pursed his lips, got up, and looked at Bonnie.
âIâm sorry if I hurt your feelings, but Iâm just telling the truth.â
Bonnie swallowed a piece of orange and said casually, âYou donât have to apologize. I was going to say the same thing to you. Youâre good, but youâre not good enough.â
Silence fell in the living room.
Ivorâs impassive eyes betrayed a hint of emotion as he looked at Bonnie appraisingly.
Ged was surprised that she had the nerve to say such a thing.
âWhatâs the matter with you two? Donât you care for me at all?â
Sigmund was exasperated.
âBonnie, donât forget that you said youâd do anything I asked after I saved you and your family.â
Bonnie frowned.
âAnd you, Ivor. When you were still a student, your parents didnât want you to waste your time on anything unproductive. If it werenât for my support, would you have been able to play chess and join those competitions?
âYou said that as long as I helped persuade your parents to let you play chess, youâd do what I said in the future. Why are you going back on your word?â
Ivor was stumped.
All of a sudden, the living room became quiet again.
A moment later, Sigmund spoke.
âI know I canât force love, so how about this? You get engaged and weâll see how things go.â
Bonnie thought about it and said, âOkay, but I want to set a time limit.â
âAll right, 10 years then. If you think youâre not right for each other after that, Iâll call it off,â

Sigmund said.
Bonnie shot him a look of disbelief.
âYou might as well have said 50 years.â

Sigmund slapped his thigh excitedly. â50 years it is!â
Bonnie was at a loss for words. She knew he was doing this on purpose.
âOne month. After one month, Iâll have nothing to do with him,â Bonnie said coldly.
âOne month? Thatâs too short, isnât it? Talk to her, Ivor,â Sigmund said anxiously.
Ivor said impassively, âOkay, one month it is.â
âDeal!â
âGreat, itâs a deal then.â
Bonnie and Ivor had finally agreed on something.
Exasperated, Sigmund let out a long sigh.
âSince youâve made up your mind, Iâll pick a date for your engagement.
âOkay.â Bonnie checked the time and got up. âItâs late. I should get going.â 1
âWhy donât you stay for dinner?â Sigmund tried to persuade her to stay.
âI havenât been home in days. My parents will be worried.â
Sigmund acquiesced after he heard her say that.
As he watched Bonnie leave, Ged said, âShe hasnât gone home in days? Isnât she a student? She doesnât seem to be sick. Why would she take so many days off?
âShe must have skipped class, huh? Sigmund, what were you thinking? How could you choose a girl like that to be Ivorâs wife?â
âYou donât know anything about her, okay?â Sigmund was exasperated.
Ged decided to drop the subject for now.
âOh, I almost forgot!â Ged looked toward Ivor. âIâve managed to get in touch with the Shepherd!â
âFor real?â Ivor grew excited.
Even his eyes lit up.
Ged tsked. âYou only come alive when we talk about chess, donât you?â
âCut the crap! When did you contact the Shepherd? Did he agree to play a game with me?â
That was all Ivor cared about.

âI only managed to get in touch with his friend. He said the Shepherdâs been busy lately, so heâll tell him when heâs free.â
âGreat, Iâll wait then.â Ivor squeezed his fists to contain his excitement.
The butler rushed into the Shepard villa.
âMaâam! Ms. Bonnie is back!â
âWhat? How is she back?â
Vera and her husband, Gresham Shepard, were in the middle of dinner. They exchanged a look.
At that moment, Bonnie entered the house in her sneakers.
Vera put down her fork and quickly walked up to her.
âDidnât you get taken away by the police? Did you manage toâ¦. escape?â
Vera was troubled, and Gresham gave his daughter a stern look.
âI might not be your dad, but I suggest you surrender. If you donât, Iâll have to call the cops for your own good.â
Bonnie frowned and said placidly, âI didnât break the law or escape from anywhere, all right?â
Greshamâs face stiffened. âYou really wonât turn yourself in?â
Bonnie didnât bother to explain.
Gresham took out his phone and called the police station.
âHello, Iâd like to make a police report.
âMy daughter was arrested two days ago, but she escaped and returned home. I told her to give herself up, but she refused. Please come arrest her now!â 1
