I Love You Miss Genius ( Bonnie Shepard ) CHAPTER 5
I Love You, Miss Genius
Chapter 5
âHer name? Bonnie Shepard, BâOâNâNâ1âE, SâHâEâPâAâRâD.â
âPlease hold, sir. Let me check the records.â
A minute later, the voice came through, stammering this time.
âYâyouâve made a mistake. Bonâ she coughed, âBonnie Shepard hasnât broken any law or escaped from the police.
âIf you make a false report again, weâll charge you!â
With that, she hung up.
Gresham was stupefied. Vera was beside him and had heard everything the police officer said.
âAre you done? Iâll go upstairs then.â Bonnie left.
Vera felt a sense of pity as she watched her walk away.
After all, Bonnie might be a loser, but she was still her daughter.
âIâm sorry, Bonnie. We were wrong about you.â
Saddened, Bonnie stopped and looked over her shoulder at Vera. That woman hardly ever apologized to her and was never so gentle to her.
Gresham sighed.
âI was just worried about you. Anyway, I apologize.â
Bonnie frowned. âItâs okay.â
The living room fell silent, and Bonnie spoke first.
âIâm hitting the sack.â
âWait!â
Vera stopped Bonnie. âWhat on earth happened the other day? Why did you get taken away?â
âI told you, itâs classified. Iâll tell you when the time is right.â
Bonnie told her the truth.
Vera was losing her patience and felt disappointed and angry.
She didnât want to hear any more lies, so she changed the subject.
âThe school called. They said they might kick you out if you skip classes again.â
âIâll handle it.â

Bonnie wasnât worried about getting kicked out of school because she could easily get someone to
take care of that.
But Vera exploded.
âYouâll handle it? How? Do you think youâre the principal or something? Youâre 20 years old, Bonnie! You could have graduated long ago if you hadnât skipped school so often. Hell, you even took one whole year off before!
âTrina was born on the same day as you, but sheâs already a sophomore at Pyralis University!
âIf you keep fooling around like this, youâll never get into college!
âAnd even if you do, itâll probably be some thirdârate college!â
Bonnie had told Vera why she had to take a break from school back then.
But her parents didnât believe her and had scolded her for lying.
Bonnie didnât bother trying to explain herself again.
âDonât worry, Iâm not going to some thirdârate college. Iâll be going to Pyralis University.â
âPyralis University?â
Vera could hardly believe her ears.
âYup.â Bonnie nodded.
âThatâs the best university in Pyralis! Only the cream of the crop gets in there!
âTrina got in because she studied hard day and night.
âYouâve repeated grades for two years. What makes you think you can get in?â
âIâll have no problem getting in if I become the top scorer in the entrance test.â
Bonnie was confident.
Vera was truly exasperated. By the time she regained her composure, Bonnie had returned to her
bedroom.
She had worked on her research for two days straight, and she was exhausted.
Just as she was getting ready to shower, she received a video call from one of her best friends.
She answered it, and a handsome man showed up on screen.
âHey, the Knight wants to have a game with you.â
Bonnie was intrigued. âAre you sure itâs him?â
â100%!â
âOkay, Iâm in.â
Chapter
âThatâs terrific!â Heath Rice sounded excited. âThe Shepherd and the Knight are the titans of the chess world. This will be the game of the century! Iâm really looking forward to it. Iâll reply to him right away!â
âSure.â
After hanging up, Bonnie took a hot shower and lay down in bed to sleep.

At 6:00 a.m. the next day, Bonnie left her house in a tank top and a pair of leggings.
She hadnât done any kickboxing training in a long time, so she decided to work out in the park.
Bonnie saw an old man shadow boxing while his peers looked on.
âWay to go, Orson!â
âNo one can take a punch like that!â
The elderly onlookers showered the man with their compliments.
Bonnie frowned and muttered to herself, âYour footwork is poor, and your strikes are sloppy.â
She had learned kickboxing from a young age, so she couldnât help pointing out his mistakes.
The elderly men heard her and looked over.
They looked at the young woman skeptically.
âHey, young lady, what do you know about kickboxing?â
âDonât talk about what you donât know, okay?â
âYeah, Orson has studied kickboxing for over a decade. Iâm sure he knows what heâs doing.â
But Bonnie was undaunted.
âI was just telling the truth. He wasnât doing it right.â
âWatch your mouth, young lady!â
Scott had a bad temper. He was a huge fan of Orson Steele, and couldnât accept anyone criticizing him.
âGet lost, or Iâm going to-â
âLeave her alone, Scott. Sheâs just a kid.â
Smiling amicably, Orson walked up to Bonnie. 13
âSo you know some kickboxing, huh?â
âYup.â Bonnie nodded.
Orson studied her face and was surprised to find that she didnât look like she was lying.
Chapter 5
âHow long have you been doing it?â
Bonnie tried to remember. âSince I was three.â
âYou guys hear that? Kickboxing at three years old?
âIâve lived many years, but Iâve never met anyone so full of shit!â
Scott and others laughed so hard that they doubled over.
Bonnie remained impassive.
Touching his beard, Orson narrowed his eyes and said, âYou said I didnât do it right. Why donât you show me the right way?â
Bonnie checked the time. As she only needed to get to school at 7:30 a.m., she had time.
âIâll have to go to school later, so Iâll only show this once. Pay close attention, okay?â
âWhat a showâoff! If she can pull this off, Iâll shave my head and do a headstand-â
Before Scott could finish, his jaw dropped.
