Chapter 356 - Why did the turtle eat the cookies? (3)
Rebirth of the Evil Mother-In-Law
Li XinYun started to get worried. She wondered if she needed to give the turtle some pills to help with its digestion.
Her spinning around gave Fang JunRong a headache, so she resorted to sending Li XinYun on her way. âYou should hurry up and go have your makeover done. Didnât you say you want to be the prettiest star today?â
Li XinYun stuck her tongue out. âIâll be leaving in a second. You donât need to prepare lunch for me. Iâll just eat outside.â
Unfortunately, Li XinYunâs trip was not meant to be. Fang JunRong received a call from Jiang WenYu before Li XinYun could leave the house.
Jiang WenYu performed the analysis personally and his voice had never been more solemn. âWho sent you the snacks? They contained narcotics.â
âAre you sure about that?â Fang JunRong took a deep breath. She wasnât sure if he had heard him right.
âI think I will at least be able to tell that much. Was it a gift that you have received? You didnât eat any, did you?â
Fang JunRongâs immediate reaction was to look over at Kuaikuai. Would it be okay after eating those?
Then the feeling of fear after the incident surged up within her.
Luckily, XinYun didnât eat any of them. Had Kuaikuai not eaten them first, knowing how XinYun was, she would have eaten all of them just to be appreciative of her friendâs effort.

Fang JunRongâs face dropped. Her roiling anger inside of her was almost uncontrollable.
She didnât care who it was behind it but, trying to do that to a kid was a lowly act!
Li XinYun was at loss. âWhatâs wrong with the cookies?â
She saw that her mother was so angry that she was about to burst into flames after she received the call.
Even when her mother was very angry after finding out that her father had cheated on her, it was still the restrained kind of anger. She had never let it shown outwardly.
Fang JunRong let out a deep breath and her voice was cold. âAre you sure this was given to you by your friend in person? Not something that someone had swapped out?â
By now Li XinYun had figured that there was something wrong with the cookies.
She had thought that her mother was going overboard when she sent the cookies over to the laboratory but she, too, was nervous now. âYeah, she made them. She designs her own cookie molds and they canât be found elsewhere.â
She even praised how her friend was very good with her hands.
âWhatâs inside the cookies?â She stared anxiously at Fang JunRong, looking a little frantic.
Fang JunRong said to her, âThere was narcotics in them.â
Li XinYun could hear firecrackers exploding in her ears. Redness left her cheeks bit by bit. âIs that true?â
Fang JunRong nodded solemnly.
Li XinYun pulled out her cellphone and, as her hand was shaking, she almost dropped her phone.
Fang JunRong placed her hand on her daughterâs shoulder and comforted her, âPerhaps someone else was trying to get to you through her.â
Li XinYun nodded forcefully. âYes, that is certainly a possibility as well.â She would much rather believe in that possibility rather than having to believe that her own friend was trying to harm her.
She felt much calmer after looking at her mother. She lowered her head and dialed Zhang MeiXia, her friend. Her friend picked up the call quickly. âMeiXia.â
âWhatâs the matter, XinYun?â
Li XinYun asked her, âDid you make those cookies yourself? They were very tasty. You got any more of them?â
âYes. They were presents for you; of course I made them myself. Iâm glad you liked them. I can bring more this afternoon if you like. You must come today. No skipping out on us.â
âIâll be there.â
Li XinYun lowered her eyes and bit her lower lip reflexively.
Her cheerfulness was gone and her heart sank. So was Zhang Meixia aware of the problems with her cookies?
She did not want to suspect her own friend but, right now, all evidence pointed toward her, especially when she stressed that she must be there in the afternoon.
She knew that it was wrong to doubt oneâs own friend but she couldnât help herself right now.
Her heart sank deeper and deeper.
