Chapter 272
The Unknown God of War
Chu Feng merely smiled in resignation. Sometimes he really did not know if Fenglan had eyes or not;
likewise, he did not understand how she could be so utterly blind to the obvious.
Muqing was so exasperated her face turned red. Stamping her feet, she snapped, "Mom, you⦠youâre
so unreasonableâ¦"
"Alright, weâd better head home now. Duo Duo is waiting for you, you know." Chu Feng was nonchalant
about the entire matter. Tugging gently at Muqingâs hand, he turned to go. After all, it was pointless
trying to explain anything to a woman like Fenglan.
Fenglan merely rolled her eyes. When the pair went out the door, she abruptly shouted, "Chu Feng, let
me tell you, my daughter is going to marry into the lap of luxury, so the sooner you get yourself away
from her, the better.
"If that other Mr. Chu takes offense, I certainly canât help you. Heâs a famous personality and a well-
known big shot, you know!"
It was already evening by the time they left Muqingâs family home.
Chu Feng made no mention of Fenglanâs disdain and taunts or how he had been wronged today.
Instead, he laughed and talked as usual; he did not display any signs of dissatisfaction or negative
emotions.
This also caused Muqing to feel even more conscience-stricken, and her self-recrimination increased.
Her promotion to the position of Director in the company, as well as her eldest uncle's family
withdrawing their purchase order and apologizing, were all thanks to Chu Feng building momentum for
her in the background. All this had happened because of him.
He was indeed her greatest hero, but he never received so much as a word of thanks or any respect
from her own mother. In fact, Fenglan was making things so difficult and ridiculous that even Muqing,
her very own flesh and blood, could not tolerate it.
Chu Feng has truly given so much and sacrificed such a great deal for me. How can I ever repay him?
Muqingâs lovely eyes glistened; inwardly she was experiencing immense inner turmoil, and her
thoughts weighed heavily on her mind.
If she really were to think it over carefully, it seemed to her that ever since she had met Chu Feng, he
was always quietly in the background, lending support whenever she or Duo Duo encountered
problems in life. Gradually, without her realizing it, Chu Feng had become an indispensable part of her
life.
Furthermore, Zhou Lie and his wife Minglan had showered her with so much love and care that she
truly experienced what it was like to have a warm, loving home.
Donât tell me the only way to repay Chu Feng is to devote my life to him and become his wife?
Muqing kept turning the jade bracelet round and round on her fair wrist, her thoughts whirling around in
her head without stopping. Her pretty face was scarlet and burning hot; she felt both shy and anxious.
"Muqing, why is your face so red?" Chu Feng was startled. Quickly, he rested his hand against
Muqingâs smooth face, then touched her forehead.
"You donât have a fever either, so why is your face as red as a baboonâs butt?"
"Youâre the baboonâs butt, you rascal! You and your entire family!"
Muqing huffily pushed Chu Fengâs intrusive hand away and glared at him in irritation, before flouncing
off.
"Ignorant wretch, no wonder youâre still single."
Chu Feng was left wondering as he stared after the angry woman who had just stalked off. Not only
was he at a loss, but he was also bereft of speech.
Why on earth did she get angry all of a sudden? He wondered, perplexed. Itâs impossible to understand
a womanâs mind.
Half an hour later, Chu Feng and Muqing finally arrived back at Haitang Garden Mansion. Now
that they were in their own home, they were able to fully relax.
"Daddy!"
Barefooted, Duo Duo dashed straight into Chu Fengâs arms. Assuming an air of grievance, she pouted,
"Daddy, youâre finally home! Iâve really missed youâ¦
"The last few days weâve been either eating instant noodles or ordering take-out. Iâm so hungry Iâve
gone thin."
Chu Fengâs expression was one of absolute adoration toward the little girl. Judging by her weight in his
arms right now, he could not tell at all where she might possibly have lost any weight.
Muqing eyed Duo Duoâs round little stomach and saw right through the young drama queenâs play-
acting. In some irritation, she asked, "Aunt Muyu was taking care of you, wasnât she? Why
didnât you ask her to cook something for you?"
Duo Duo shook her head vigorously. "I⦠I'd rather eat what you cook, Mummy. Even if it's hard to eat,
at least no one's died from eating your cooking yet."
Chu Feng burst out laughing.
Muyuâs cooking could not even be compared with the unsanitary street food found in dubious areas of
the city. Rather, it was an outright disaster.
"Hmph. At least you acknowledge that your Mummy tries very hardâ¦"
Muqing quirked an eyebrow in a self-satisfied manner, then abruptly realized something. In a huff, she
demanded, "You little rascal, is my cooking so difficult to stomach?"
"Itâs not difficult to stomach, Mummy. Itâs extremely difficult to stomach." Duo Duoâs expression was one
of pure innocence.
As Muqingâs expression darkened and she snatched up a nearby feather duster, Duo Duo hastily
burrowed her head into Chu Fengâs embraced and urged hurriedly, "Uh oh, Mummyâs on
the warpath now. Weâd better escape now, Daddyâ¦"
