Chapter 274
The Unknown God of War
Muyu was inexpressibly gloomy, but she asked Muqing inquisitively, "Muqing, how did you meet Chu
Feng anyway? Come on, spill the dirt. I want to know."
"What are you talking about, suddenly calling him your brother-in-law? Both of us are just pretending to
be husband and wife, thatâs all. Iâve told you countless times already."
Muqing eyed Muyu rather exasperatedly. However, this set her thinking.
How had she come to meet Chu Feng anyway?
In truth, it was all rather peculiar. He seemed to have appeared out of nowhere and showed up in the
lives of herself and her daughter. Furthermore, whenever they encountered danger or problems, he
was always there like a superhero from the movies, helping them take care of things.
Later on, after Duo Duo had mistaken Chu Feng for her actual father, he had not corrected her either,
and all three of them had muddled along with their lives until now.
At this point, Muqing suddenly became aware that Chu Feng had taken up a decisive role in her daily
affairs and her heart. It was as if he had become an essential part of her life.
She could not imagine what she and Duo Duo's lives would be like if, one day, Chu Feng suddenly left.
Strangely enough, this thought caused her a touch of panic, as well as a sense of loss and heartache.
Muyu listened to all of this. At the end of Muqingâs narrative, she cupped her chin and slewed her eyes.
"When you put it like that, Brother-in-lawâs sudden appearance does seem to be a little odd. It defies
logic.
Not only that, even if you're pretending to be husband and wife, surely he can't be doing all of these
things for you, just for that measly salary. Does he seem to you like someone who needs money?"
How could someone who casually purchased Haitang Garden Mansion need money? It was worth at
least 500 million yuan.
Right as Muqing suddenly felt anxious, Muyu smote her thigh and declared in excitement, "Muqing, Iâve
got it!
"My amazingly powerful brain has deduced that Chu Feng is actually Duo Duoâs real father. Heâs the
man you met five years ago at that bar!"
"What?!"
Muqing was completely stunned by this statement. Involuntarily, she sat up straight and gave the
matter some thought. "No, thatâs not possible. If he were Duo Duoâs father, heâd have acknowledged
that ages ago. Why would he hide it from me for this long?"
"He feels guilty!"
Muyu had hit the nail on the head. Like Sherlock Holmes, she explained her reasoning perfectly
logically. "Think about it, five years ago he spent a night with you and just vanished from your life. All
this time, heâs never been a father to Duo Duo or a proper husband to you. How could he not feel guilty
or ashamed?
"He'd feel it more, especially since you gave birth to his daughter and got chased out of your home
because of it. For the last five years, you've been working yourself to death just to make a life for
yourself and Duo Duo. As a man, how could he possibly acknowledge who he is after abandoning you
like that?
"That's why the only thing he can do is keep close and guard you both. He wants to shelter and protect
you to atone for his failures and shame. When the time is right, he'll disclose his identity to you."
If Chu Feng had been present, he would have been utterly stunned and even broken into a cold sweat
in admiration of Muyuâs acumen!
What she said happened to be the exact truth!
Muqing froze. She frowned slightly, and her lovely face turned serious as she recalled how she had first
come into contact with Chu Feng, and all her subsequent interactions with him.
It had to be said that his stammering awkwardness at their first meeting was rather suspect. He
seemed to have a great deal that he wished to say, but did not have the courage to verbalize it.
Furthermore, this had happened several times. Logically speaking, a man like him, who was so
resolute, open, and aboveboard, could never be so hesitant and indecisive, or so inarticulateâ¦
Could it actually be him?
Muqing felt a slight headache coming on. She drew a deep breath, maintaining her composure.
"Muyu, all of this is merely what youâve come up with on your own. Thereâs no proof, so itâs best not to
speak of it."
"Who says thereâs no proof? Let me tell you, Iâve binged on so many shows the last few days and
caught up on so many classes. Thatâs what happens in all these series!" Muyu stated confidently.
Muqingâs eyes widened. In exasperation, she exclaimed, "You mean your entire hodgepodge of
deductions is based on fictional and unreliable TV shows?"
"What do you mean, unreliable and fictional? Donât you know that art imitates life? All these shows are
really good. I suggest you go watch some yourself." Muyu pouted slightly, then grinned and gleefully
handed Muqing her iPad.
Muqing randomly swiped past the synopses of some of the shows, and her gaze straight away fell on
the following summaries.
"A romance between an overbearing company chairman and a bubble tea shop girl?"
"They were in love for so many years, only to discover they were biological brother and sister?"
"She had just been in a car accident and was recently diagnosed with cancer. Then she encountered a
time-traveling alien, and they fell in love?"
