Chapter 44

Cole's POV

I slammed my hand on the table in anger.

"What do you mean?!?" I yelled. "You were given a job... just one fucking job and you messed it up!?"

"I... I" The guard stuttered.

"Speak clearly". I said in a dangerously low tone.

"I- I was knocked out". He said.

"Who knocked you out?" I asked him, trying to calm myself down. Causing a scene wouldn't solve the problem.

"He didn't reveal his face". He said shakily.

I clenched my jaw, as well as my fists.

"Actually, I stumbled on his unconscious body when I came to serve miss Brittany's food... Her door was open and I found a tray of untouched food on the table". The female slave said.

"I remember him forcing me to tell miss Brittany that I had to deliver her food so she could unlock the door". The guard said.

I exhaled calmly and said "Okay, you can leave".

After they left, I picked up my phone and dialed Malcolm's number, asking him to come to my office... Well, more like ordering him.

"What- how?" Malcolm said, dumbfounded after I told him about Brittany's kidnap. He knew how important Brittany was to me. I was seconds away from losing it. But nothing was going to get solved if I didn't remain calm.

"We need to figure out who kidnapped her". I said.

Malcolm nodded in agreement.

"Question all the guards... Especially those that were supposed to guard the main entrance ".

"On it. But I have to tell you... Remain calm". He said before leaving.

I'll try.

He came back a few hours later.

"I've questioned them all". He said.

"I have a suspect"

I looked up attentively, waiting for him to continue.

"Adrian. He left the building with one of his pets who was hideously dressed. Normally, he hardly puts on any clothes for his pets so..."

I clenched my fists.

"Any other person?" I asked through gritted teeth.

"Not really... But there's someone I think may know about this"

"Who?"

"His male pet. Isn't it suspicious that he suddenly gets a male pet, not just an ordinary pet but one that he never takes blood from?" He said.

"Call him in for questioning then". I said.

After interrogating Nathan, Adrian's only male pet, I figured that he actually didn't know anything about Adrian kidnapping Britt but he gave out hints that he heard Adrian talking about it with someone.

That could only mean that someone else was behind Adrian kidnapping Brittany.

I knew exactly who it was.

Brittany's POV

I let out a cough as I slowly regained consciousness. The cough was due to how parched my throat was. It only took a split second before I realized I was tired down to a chair.

Well, well...

I didn't bother to struggle with the chains that tied my hands because struggling wasn't going to help, it was only going to make my hand hurt.

My gaze shifted towards the door as I heard footsteps approach.

The door creaked open.

About four men in black walked in.

"I see... You're awake". Adrian said.

"What the hell do you want from me?" I growled.

He laughed. A type of laughter that was void of emotion. An empty and cheerless one.

"You'll find out soon enough". He said, grabbing my chin roughly.

"You know, seeing your face makes me want to rip your body in half". He said through gritted teeth.

So violent.

"What the hell did I do to you?" I asked him.

"You did nothing. It's the fact that you're a Devereaux that makes me hate you so much". He said, grabbing my chin roughly again before letting go.

"What's Devereaux?" I asked, confusion written all over my face.

He chuckled darkly.

"Your last name". He said, making me chuckle.

"Well, I think you've got the wrong person because last time I checked, my last name was Riele". I said.

"That's your mom's last name". He said.

"W- what... No!" I stuttered.

"Well... Yeah". He said. "Since you seem so interested in knowing your family's past, how about I come back here for a little story time?"

I glared at him. I needed answers. I didn't even know who I was anymore at this point. First, my age and now a weird last name.

But what if he was lying?

He didn't seem like he was.

"Right now, someone else needs you". He said. "Is he here yet?" He asked one of the bulky men.

"No, he's not picking up". He replied in a gruff voice.

"Well, keep on dialing the fucking number till he picks up". Adrian said.

Well, cursing was actually irrelevant.

His attention was turned back to me.

"How about we have some fun while we wait?". He said, giving me a dirty look that makes me want to punch his face till I was satisfied.

The way he stared at me made me cringe in disgust. I almost gagged.

I mustered up enough courage to speak again.

"If you keep on staring at me like that, don't blame me for plucking out your eyes". I threatened with a growl.

"Oh! I'm so scared I'm gonna pee on myself". He mocked.

"That voice doesn't suit you. It makes me want to puke". I told him.

"Oh, really? Which voice suits me more?" He said, attempting to sound "seductive".

I put a quote on seductive because he did not even sound close to that.

This guy was asking for a slap.

"That one doesn't suit you either". I told him.

"Shut up already!". He yelled.

Woah! The way his mood suddenly changed though.

He gripped my shoulder roughly, making me squirm a little. He stared down at the last place I'd want him to stare at. Then his hands began to wander.

Not being able to think of a solution, I spat on his face.

"Bitch!" He growled and slapped me hard on the face.

Ouch!

I bit down on my lips as tears began to form in my eyes. That slap stung.

Just as I was about to react with another sentence that was definitely going to piss him of further, a voice interrupted.

"Adrian, I clearly told you not to touch her". The voice said.

Once the figure came into view, my eyes widened.

"You?" I squeaked.

"Yes, me". He said.
