Chapter 1057
His unwanted wife, the world’s coveted genius

Meanwhileâ¦
The silence in the car was heavy, thick with unspoken words until Nigel finally broke it. âDevin, what exactly did you say to Belinda just now?â
Devin turned his head slightly. âI confessed my feelings for herâ¦â
Nigel was stunned for a moment.
He had not expected Devin to lay his heart bare at such a time.
And yet, noticing the despondent expression etched on Devinâs face, he already guessed how things had gone.
âBelinda rejected me decisively,â Devin continued, forcing out a bitter chuckle. âWithout a second thought.â
He exhaled heavily before adding, âAnd then she told me she and Lucas are back together.â
Nigel blinked, caught off guard again.
Belinda and Lucas were together?
Despite the initial surprise, a deep sense of admiration for Belinda settled over Nigel.
Belinda had handled the situation with remarkable clarity. There had been no hesitation, no half-hearted rejections that left room for hope. Though it was a bit cruel, it was undeniably the best course of action for both of them. Regrettably for Nigel thoughâdeep downâhe realized that Belinda wasnât destined to be part of his family.
Sighing, Nigel placed a reassuring hand on Devinâs shoulder. âDevin, itâs time for you to move on.â
Devin said nothing, his gaze fixed on the road ahead, his expression unreadable.
Belinda and Lucas had already retreated to the bedroom.
They sat together on the plush sofa. Belinda leaned lazily against Lucasâ shoulder.
She really liked leaning on him like this.
With an arm draped around Belinda, Lucas broke the silence, his voice deep and filled with emotion. âBelinda⦠I really regret it.â
His words made Belinda lift her head, curiosity flashing in her eyes. âRegret what?â
Lucas exhaled deeply, his voice laced with remorse. âI regret⦠not realizing my feelings for you sooner. If only I hadnât been so blindâso dismissive of what was right in front of me. If I had acknowledged just how different and special you were to me and admitted that I had already fallen for you back then, would we have still ended up divorced?â
Belinda replied, âYes, we would have.â
Lucas frowned, confused. âWhy?â
Belinda met his gaze, her voice calm and unwavering. âBecause loving you felt like a battle I kept losing at that time, and I just⦠I wanted to stop fighting. For once, I needed to be selfishâto choose myself over you.â
Her words sent a pang of guilt slicing through Lucasâ heart.
He had been a fool back then. A stubborn fool who had hurt the one person who mattered to him the most.
Taking a steadying breath, he turned to Belinda, sincerity radiating from his expression. âFrom now on, let me be the one to love you. You donât have to carry all the weight aloneâjust give me a small piece of your heart. Thatâs all I ask.â
Belinda offered him a faint smile but said nothing.
After a moment, Lucas seemed to think of something. âBelinda, if things hadnât unfolded the way they did⦠would you have ever considered giving me a second chance?â
