Chapter 1065
His unwanted wife, the world’s coveted genius

âMr. Rodgers!â Turner interjected, his voice rising. âWeâre discussing reality here! Yes, youâre technically correct, but letâs not forget that Belinda is a cardiac surgeon. She works with a scalpel! Do you honestly think any patient would feel safe putting their life in the hands of a doctor with HIV?â
He turned to the director, his tone firm. âYou understand what Iâm saying, right? Belindaââ
âEnough!â The directorâs voice cut through the room like a whip, silencing Turner. âAs the head of your department, your priority should be thinking about how to comfort your subordinate, who is affected by occupational exposure, not finding ways to fire her. Youâve disappointed me greatly.â
With that, he pointed to the door. âLeave.â
Turnerâs face paled, but he said nothing more.
He knew that deep down, the director likely agreed with his reasoning. Belindaâs continued employment at the Grand Plains General Hospital was untenable.
Even if Caiden wanted to keep her, he couldnât defy the collective concerns of the medical staff and the patients.
No patient would willingly accept an HIV-positive doctor.
With that thought, Turner allowed himself a slight smirk as he turned and left the office.
Once Turner was gone, the director turned to Caiden. âMr. Rodgers, whatâs your take on this? Should we let Belinda stay here as a doctor, orâ¦â
Caiden let out a cold laugh. âYouâre asking the wrong question. Instead of worrying about that, you should be more concerned about the future of our hospital.â
The director frowned, confused. âWhat do you mean by that?â
Caidenâs mocking tone cut through the air as he sneered, âIt appears youâve completely forgotten Mr. Clarkâs words from that day!â
His words jolted the directorâs memory, bringing back the events of that day. The words Lucas had spoken to him echoed in the directorâs mind with chilling clarity.
He remembered that Lucas had told him he would hold the entire hospital responsible if anything happened to Belinda.
The directorâs expression shifted instantly, his face growing pale.
After a long, tense silence, he finally turned to Caiden, his voice trembling with unease. âMr. Clark was just speaking in the heat of the moment, wasnât he? He wouldnât actually take action against our hospital, right?â
Caidenâs expression remained grim. âThatâs a question only Mr. Clark can answer. But if he decides to target the Grand Plains General Hospital, do you honestly believe weâd stand a chance to survive?â
The director fell silent, the weight of Caidenâs words pressing heavily on him.
After a moment, Caiden let out a deep sigh. âRight now, the only person who can soothe Mr. Clarkâs anger is Belinda. Sheâs the only one who can reason with him. But given her current stateâ¦â
The directorâs eyes widened in panic. âMr. Rodgers, you must find a way to meet with Belinda! You have to convince her to talk to Mr. Clark about this!â
âI understand,â Caiden replied curtly before turning on his heel and striding out of the office.
Belinda stood by the sea, the breeze whipping around her for over an hour. She remained motionless, letting the wind tangle her hair, lift the edges of her clothes, and dry the tears streaking her face.
Since she received the blood test results earlier that day, hours had passed, and her initial devastation had given way to a numb emptiness.
Even now, she couldnât bring herself to accept the reality of the situation.
She felt utterly lost, unsure of what to do next.
