Chapter 157
His unwanted wife, the world’s coveted genius

âCheers,â Belinda said, raising her whiskey glass and clinking it with Johnsonâs. She downed her whiskey in one go and immediately topped up her glass.
âAnother one,â she said, consuming three glasses swiftly. As she reached for a fourth, Johnson quickly intervened to stop her, saying, âHold on, thatâs plenty! Youâll be completely drunk soon if you keep this up.â
Belinda waved off his concern nonchalantly. âDonât worry; I can handle it.â
âEven if your alcohol tolerance is high, this isnât the way to drink,â Johnson cautioned.
After a pause, he asked worriedly, âWhatâs driving you to drink like this?â
With a bitter chuckle, Belinda opened up about her looming competition with Kylee. Johnsonâs brows furrowed with concern, prompting him to ask, âWhat happened after you agreed to compete with her? Has your father talked to you?â
Belinda shook her head slightly, saying, âItâs actually my motherâ¦â
She let out a sarcastic chuckle and continued, âShe is hoping I will let Kylee win the competition.â
âWhat?â Johnsonâs shock was evident. âYour mom really said that to you? She wants you to just let Kylee win?â
Belinda confirmed it with a nod. âYes, strange, isnât it?â
Johnson was momentarily speechless, struggling to process what he had just heard. After a pause, he questioned, âBut why would she ask that of you?â
Belindaâs eyes drifted downwards as she explained, âShe mentioned that if Kylee were to be expelled because of her rivalry with me, it would only make things more difficult for us both at home.â
Johnson absorbed her words for a moment and then said, âI understand her concern; itâs not unfounded. But still⦠asking you to lose to Kylee because of that? Thatâs not right! Is she aware of what losing could mean for you?â
âSheâs aware of that,â Belinda replied, taking a deep breath before she relayed the disheartening things Holley had said to her.
After hearing everything, Johnson let out a dry laugh. âShe is certainly only looking out for her own interests, isnât she? But has she thought about how youâll maintain your dignity in the Clark family if you really lose? And with everyone already talking about the matter, if you let Kylee win, it will only fuel the gossip even more. You canât make compromises this time!â he said firmly.
Despite hearing that, Belinda said, âIâve already given her my word. I told her I would let Kylee have her way.â
Upon hearing Belindaâs words, Johnson furrowed his brows, worry etched on his face. âBelinda! Have you lost your mind?â he exclaimed, his voice thick with concern.
Belinda flashed him a sly smile, her tone playful yet sharp. âWhy are you so worked up? I promised to let Kylee have her way, but the details⦠those are mine to define.â
Johnson relaxed upon hearing that, his laughter echoing in the room. âThatâs more like you,â he said with a grin. âAlright, since youâre clearly not in the best spirits, I will drink with you until you are satisfied! Letâs drown these absurdities.â
Johnson could see the weight of her motherâs request pressing on Belinda. Drinking seemed the most straightforward escape for her.
Belinda, clearly thinking the same thing, knocked back her glass with a single tilt. Although she usually maintained her composure even when drinking, tonight was different. The alcohol hit her hard and fast, and she was drunk soon. She transformed, her inhibitions lost to the liquor.
âHello, everybody! Letâs get this party started! Show me your hands!â she shouted, standing on the sofa. She held a fake flower in one hand, and a vase became her fake microphone. She was pretending she was the star of her solo concert.
