Chapter 163
His unwanted wife, the world’s coveted genius

âWell, you canât blame me for saying that!â Lillie said. âThe change in her appearance is just so drastic.â
Just then, Baker clapped his hands to call their attention. âAll right, now that everyoneâs here, letâs head to the dining room to eat.â
âOkay.â The group went to the dining hall and took their seats.
They were halfway through dinner when Madonna suddenly turned to Belinda with a smile. âI heard from your dad that you have close ties with the Thomas family now. Is that true?â
Belinda raised an eyebrow slightly at the question, her voice smooth as she responded, âYes, thatâs true.â
The moment Madonna heard this, a bright smile spread across her face. âPerfect! The Thomas family has a project now, and theyâre looking for business partners. Albinâs company is very interested in that project. Why donât you speak with Mr. Thomas and ask him to work with Albin? After all, we are family.â
Belindaâs lips curled into a quiet sneer. So, that was the real reason for this dinner.
Now it all made sense to BelindaâMadonnaâs earlier defense of her, which was rare, and her sudden shift in attitude toward her.
Madonna had always seen herself as superior, and Belinda, being the illegitimate daughter of Baker, had never been more than a passing thought to her.
But now, with a favor to ask, Madonna was willing to offer a false kindness.
With a faint smile, Belinda replied, âSorry, Aunt Madonna, but I canât help you with that.â
Madonna furrowed her brows, frustration flashing across her face. âWhat do you mean? Youâre practically like a daughter to the Thomas family, arenât you? That makes us all family. Besides, itâs just a small favor.â
Belindaâs smile remained steady and unwavering. âI donât interfere in the Thomas familyâs business matters. I truly canât help you with this. Please, Aunt Madonna, donât make things difficult for me.â
Madonnaâs expression soured immediately, and her voice dripped with sarcasm. âAs expected, people often change when they move up in the world. Who am I to you anyway? Just your aunt, right? If you wonât help me, I wonât force you.â
Belinda fell silent, her gaze calm but firm.
She didnât feel the need to respond to Madonnaâs sarcastic words.
When Madonna saw Belinda ignoring her, her frustration deepened.
Turning sharply to Baker, she asked, âBaker, do you have nothing to say about this?â
Bakerâs irritation simmered beneath the surface at Belindaâs refusal to show any respect to Madonna or help her.
But after a brief moment of contemplation, his thoughts shifted. He remembered how even Holley had personally approached Belinda, asking her to speak on his behalf with the Thomas family, only for Belinda to reject the request outright. Given that, it wasnât surprising Belinda would refuse Madonnaâs request as well.
Before Baker could respond, Carolaâs voice cut through the tension.
She said, âWork matters arenât something for the younger generation to meddle in. Madonna, donât make things difficult for Belinda.â
Carolaâs sudden defense of Belinda left Madonna momentarily stunned. She hadnât expected that.
