Chapter 166
His unwanted wife, the world’s coveted genius

Lillie, on the other hand, turned her glare on Belinda. How could Belinda just sit there and let Darren humiliate Kylee like that? Were they not family? Did Belinda find this amusing? Was she secretly enjoying the spectacle now?
Lillieâs disdain for Belinda deepened as she looked at her.
Kylee forced a tight smile, her voice strained. âYes, I understand.â
The tension at the table became palpable, but Darren and Belinda seemed untouched by it. They sat together, chatting softly, entirely unconcerned with the others.
Lillie, however, wasnât ready to let things be. With a glass of wine in hand, she approached them, her smile practiced.
âHello, Mr. Thomas. Iâm Belindaâs cousin, Lillie Barnett. Itâs a pleasure to meet you today.â
âMay I have a drink with you?â she asked.
Darren glanced at her, his expression neutral. After a momentâs hesitation, he lifted his wine glass. He reasoned that, since Lillie was Belindaâs cousin, ignoring her completely would be impolite. Besides, Belinda hadnât mentioned any bad blood between them, so their relationship must have been tolerable.
Lillieâs smile brightened as she clinked her glass with Darrenâs. But just as the glasses touched, her grip faltered, sending wine spilling onto Darrenâs tailored black trousers.
âOh no! Iâm so sorry, Mr. Thomas!â Lillie exclaimed, flustered, as she grabbed a tissue and reached out to dab the stain.
Darrenâs expression darkened as he pushed her hand away.
Belinda immediately handed him a tissue, her voice calm. âDarren, why donât you head to the restroom to clean up?â
âOkay,â Darren accepted the tissue and left the booth.
Lillie, however, seemed ready to follow Darren. âIâm really sorry, Mr. Thomas!â she called after him, taking a step forward.
âStop right there,â Belinda said sharply. âWhere are you going?â
Lillie paused, blinking in surprise. âI was just going to see if thereâs anything I can do to help Mr. Thomas.â
Belinda let out a scoff internally. âThereâs no need for you to do that. You can sit back down,â Belinda said, her tone frosty.
âButââ Lillie bit her lip, looking troubled.
âSit,â Belinda raised her voice, her tone leaving no room for argument.
When Lillie heard Belindaâs firm tone, her eyes flickered with resentment, but under the watchful eyes of Debra and Percy, she didnât say anything and sank back into her seat.
Twenty minutes later, Darren returned, his trousers cleaned and nearly dry.
The moment he sat down, Lillie was at it again, her voice dripping with regret. âMr. Thomas, Iâm so sorry.â
âIt was all my fault. I was so careless earlier.â
Darren said nothing, clearly not wanting to talk to Lillie.
âIf youâre upset, you can pour a drink on me,â Lillie said directly, placing a fresh glass of wine in front of Darren.
