Chapter 397
His unwanted wife, the world’s coveted genius

âAbsolutely! Time for a new chapter.â Belindaâs smile was bright and unburdened.
Johnson exhaled a resigned sigh and nodded in agreement. âAlright, after we eat, weâll go celebrate.â
With that, the three of them finished their dinner and set out for Nostalgia Lounge.
âTo Belindaâs new beginning!â Bethany initiated a toast, enthusiastically raising her glass.
Following her lead, Belinda and Johnson also lifted their glasses, and the sound of glasses clinking together filled the air.
âI still think that Verena is really shameless! She fell down by herself and had the audacity to blame you for pushing her,â Bethany angrily said.
Belinda maintained her composure, replying, âIt looks like she was trying to use the accident to make Lucas turn against me and seek a divorce.â
With a dismissive flick of her wrist, Bethany scoffed, âI canât believe Lucas bought into her ridiculous story.â
Belindaâs eyes dropped as she added softly, âHe told me he saw me reaching out my hand.â
Quick to defend, Bethany retorted, âSo what if he saw that? Just because you reached out doesnât mean you pushed Verena. Why didnât he think you were actually trying to pull Verena back? This just proves he doesnât really understand or trust you. Anyone who truly knows you would never doubt your intentions.â
Bethanyâs words brought a sense of warmth to Belinda. She realized that she didnât need to explain anything to people who trusted her. And for those who didnât trust her, no amount of explanation would be enough.
âIt doesnât matter now. Itâs all history,â Belinda replied, smiling weakly.
âAbout that maid⦠Do you know her?â Johnson suddenly inquired.
âNot really,â Belinda said. âThere are so many staff members at the Clark familyâs house, I donât know most of them.â
With a sneer, Johnson commented, âItâs quite daring of her to accuse you without full knowledge of the situation.â
Bethany then asked, turning to Johnson, âDo you think there is something fishy about that maid?â
Belinda considered this and said, âHarold probably has his suspicions as well. He and his wife didnât fire the maid; they just docked her pay for six months. It seems like they are keeping her under observation.â
âHaroldâs got a sharp mind,â Johnson said with a smile.
âLetâs continue our drinks,â Bethany said, raising her glass once again.
Belinda gave her a resigned look. âTake it easy, or youâll end up drunk soon.â
âI just want to drink with you tonight,â Bethany pouted.
âThere is no need for excess; a little is just fine for me,â Belinda replied, her smile gentle.
Bethany chose not to say anything upon hearing that. However, both she and Johnson were aware that Belindaâs cool demeanor was merely a mask.
Just as Bethany was about to say something, Johnson suddenly pointed in a direction and said, âLook over thereâ¦â
