Chapter 418
His unwanted wife, the world’s coveted genius

The thought of this filled him with a searing frustration that made his fists clench. How could he possibly hold his head high now?
âDad,â Kylee said, her voice almost sweet, âI think Belinda must be feeling really upset right now. Do you think we should call her and check on her?â Her words only deepened Bakerâs scowl.
Taking a sharp breath, he said through gritted teeth, âYes, Kylee. Youâre right. I really should call her.â
Seeing Baker like this, Kylee barely contained her smirk. She knew exactly what was going to happen. She knew her father would just call Belinda to vent his frustrations and scold her. Kylee chuckled inwardly as she looked at Baker. She now understood why Belinda had refused her help that day. Belinda hadnât asked for anyoneâs help to explain her side of the story. Why bother? Lucas hadnât believed her. He had chosen Verena over her without hesitation. Though Kyleeâs own plans had failed, she now found the outcome deliciously satisfying.
âKylee,â Baker suddenly said, yanking her from her thoughts, âgive me your phone.â
Kyleeâs eyes widened in surprise. âHuh? Oh.â She paused for a moment before retrieving her phone and handing it to Baker.
Baker took the phone and, with grim determination, dialed Belindaâs number.
In her room at the Thomas familyâs residence, Belinda had just sunk into her chair when Kyleeâs name flashed on her phone screen. She stared at the screen for a few seconds, her brow furrowing, before finally answering the call.
âYou fool!â A furious voice exploded from the other end of the line, unmistakably Bakerâs.
Belindaâs lips curled into a cold smile when she heard that. âMr. Wright,â she replied icily. âWhat could you possibly want from me?â
Baker didnât waste time. He asked directly, âBelinda, did you and Mr. Clark get divorced?â
Belinda froze at Bakerâs words, momentarily caught off guard. She hadnât expected him to know about the divorce so soon. It didnât take long for her to guess that it must have been Holley who had told Baker the news. Since the truth was already out, there was no point in hiding it.
Belindaâs tone was brisk and unapologetic as she replied, âYes.â
On the other end of the line, Bakerâs expression darkened in an instant, his fury palpable even through the phone. âYou fool!â he exclaimed. âThis is all your fault! If you hadnât maliciously pushed Verena down the stairs, Mr. Clark wouldnât have divorced you! You know how much he cares about Verena. How dare you provoke him like that? Were you deliberately looking for trouble?â
Belinda felt a bitter laugh rise in her throat. Her father really didnât care about her at all. Yet, amidst Bakerâs accusations, he had said one thing right: Verena was, indeed, the most important person to Lucas.
Her voice calm, almost eerily so, Belinda asked, âWho told you it was Lucas who asked for the divorce?â
There was a brief pause before Baker responded, âWhat do you mean by that? If Mr. Clark didnât ask for the divorce⦠Are you saying you were the one who asked for the divorce?â
âYes,â Belinda replied calmly. âI was the one who asked for the divorce.â
Bakerâs mind reeled, his voice rising in disbelief. âWhat?â
