Chapter 764
His unwanted wife, the world’s coveted genius

Minna fell silent as she absorbed Verenaâs words. After a moment of thought, she realized Verena was right. She nodded slowly. âOkay, I understand that. I wonât call her.â
Verena said, âJust remember, for everything to go smoothly, stay out of sight and avoid contacting anyone.â
âAlright,â Minna agreed, nodding again.
Verenaâs expression softened. âYou must be exhausted now. Go and get some rest.â
âOkay, thank you,â Minna replied before standing up and heading to her room.
As she watched Minna leave, Verena couldnât help but smile.
Minna had indeed brought her a pleasant surprise!
Verena hoped Minna would keep up the momentum when dealing with Belinda.
The next day, at noon, Verena arrived at the Triumph Consortium.
She approached the receptionist and said, âCould you please swipe my card?â
To use the elevator, a card swipe was required, or one couldnât access any of the floors.
When the receptionist saw Verena, she was momentarily stunned before saying, âSorry, Miss Reed, do you have an appointment?â
âAn appointment?â Verenaâs smile froze for a second, and then, she laughed. âDo I really need an appointment?â
The receptionist explained, âIâm sorry, Miss Reed, but thereâs a new rule now. Anyone who wants to meet Mr. Clark has to schedule an appointment first.â
With the receptionist so clear about the rules, Verena couldnât argue further.
After a brief pause, she said, âAlright, please call Lucasâ office and let him know Iâm downstairs.â
âOkay, please wait a moment,â the receptionist replied quickly. After all, they had known each other for years, and she was happy to help Verena with this.
When Lucas got the call from his secretaryâs office, he simply said, âDonât let her in.â
After the receptionist received the reply from the secretaryâs office, her expression became somewhat awkward.
She turned back to Verena. âIâm sorry, Miss Reed, but Mr. Clark is busy and canât see you right now. Maybe you can come back another day.â
Verenaâs expression shifted, a flicker of disbelief crossing her face. âLucas⦠He refuses to see me?â
The receptionist looked a bit uncomfortable. âUh, yes, thatâs right.â
Verena raised her voice, her disbelief growing. âDid you tell him it was me who wanted to see him?â
The receptionist hesitated. âWell⦠Miss Reed, you heard me make the call, right?â
Verena fell silent, her mind racing. This was hard for her to accept. She had come all the way to the Triumph Consortium to see Lucas, and now, she needed an appointment just to meet him? And Lucas had refused to see her!
What was Lucas playing at?
Hadnât they agreed to be friends?
As she walked out, Verena pulled out her phone and dialed Lucasâ number.
