Chapter 768
His unwanted wife, the world’s coveted genius

Lucas immediately shook his head, dismissing the idea. âItâs definitely not him. Rhys has been swamped lately with problems at his company in Soling. Heâs been running himself ragged trying to sort everything out. As soon as Minna escaped, I had someone look into Rhys and keep an eye on him. So far, thereâs no sign that he knows anything about Minnaâs escape. It couldnât have been him.â
Bethany frowned, her confusion evident. âThatâs strange. If it wasnât Rhys, then who could it be?â
Lucas sighed. âWe still donât know.â
âDamn it! That Minna is nothing but trouble!â Bethany muttered, clearly frustrated.
The conversation about Minna cast a heavy shadow over the table, making the atmosphere tense.
Belinda quickly smiled and changed the subject. âLetâs not dwell on her anymore. Weâre here to enjoy ourselves, not let her ruin our mood.â
Johnson also nodded enthusiastically. âExactly! With Lucas around, Belindaâs in good hands. Maybe in a day or two, Minna will be caught.â
With that, they moved on, and the topic was dropped.
During the meal, Lucas kept tending to Belindaâs needs meticulously, while Johnson did the same for Catherine.
Bethany and Vincent, feeling a bit out of place, exchanged knowing looks.
After finishing the meal, they left the restaurant and returned to the hotel for a much-needed rest.
In the afternoon, they were feeling more refreshed and changed into swimwear to head to the hot spring pool.

Their expressions shifted in an instant.
âWhy are Verena and Ryan here again? Itâs like theyâre a shadow that follows us everywhere,â Bethany muttered under her breath, clearly irritated.
Ryan and Verena approached them, with Ryan grinning. âWe didnât miss anything, did we?â
Bethany shot back, âHow did you even know we were here? Did you get it from another waiter?â
Her voice dripped with sarcasm, and her disdain was impossible to hide.
âIt was me,â Vincent spoke up before Ryan could reply.
Everyone turned to look at him, surprised.
Vincent explained, âWhen Johnson called me yesterday, I was having dinner with Ryan and Verena. They overheard the conversation, soâ¦â There was no need for further explanation.
Ryan and Verena had shamelessly tagged along.
After a beat, Johnson sighed and broke the awkward silence. âWell, since youâre already here, we might as well enjoy the hot spring together.â
There wasnât much choice; they couldnât exactly ask Verena and Ryan to leave. After all, they were friends, and creating unnecessary tension wasnât worth it.
Even so, Verena and Ryanâs unexpected arrival dimmed the relaxed atmosphere, leaving a subtle awkwardness hanging in the air. The group headed toward their designated hot spring pool without much conversation.
They had barely made it halfway when a sudden, piercing scream shattered the quiet.
