Chapter 886
His unwanted wife, the world’s coveted genius

After a pause, he continued, âSo, the most important thing right now is to stay calm. If we panic or act rashly, weâll inevitably make mistakes. And mistakes are exactly what we canât afford. Understood?â
Holley swallowed hard, nodding.
âAlright, alright⦠I get it.â
But when she finally lay down that night, sleep refused to come. Each time she closed her eyes, nightmares clawed their way into her mind.
The following day, Lucasâ injury was healing wellâhis doctors had assured him that in just a few more days, he would be discharged from the hospital. Feeling slightly more at ease about Lucasâ condition, Belinda returned to work today.
She was scheduled for the night shift, which began at six in the evening, so she spent the daylight hours in Lucasâ ward, keeping him company.
Coincidentally, today also marked the day of Bradenâs surgery. Belinda had been worried about him.
After some hesitation, she pulled out her phone, her fingers hovering over the screen for a brief moment before she finally dialed Caidenâs number.
Caiden soon picked up the call.
âStar, whatâs the matter?â he asked.
âToday is the day of Bradenâs surgery. At seventy-plus years old, this will be his second operation. Turner had already pushed back the procedure by a week, so Iâm a bit worried. Can you keep an eye on his surgery for me?â Belinda said.
On the other end of the line, Caiden let out a tired sigh, rubbing his temple.
âBelinda, that patient chose to change doctors, completely dismissing your skills like they meant nothing. Yet here you are, worrying about his well-being. Honestly, I donât know what to say about this anymore.â
Belinda remained unfazed, her voice steady.
âTurner is the one who caused all that chaos with the doctor switch. You canât place all the blame on the patient. And besides, he used to be under my care. I was the first attending doctor to treat him, so itâs only natural that Iâd still be concerned about him. Just do me this favor.â
Caiden exhaled in resignation.
âFine, fine. I hear you. Once they start, Iâll be in the observation room with the other cardiac surgeons, watching the surgery. That should be enough to put your mind at ease, right?â
âThatâll do,â Belinda replied before ending the call.
Sliding her phone back into her pocket, she turned and walked toward the ward.
Braden had originally been slated for surgery at four in the afternoon, but Turner had back-to-back operations lined up before that. An unexpected complication in his second procedure had led to delays, and it wasnât until five that Braden was finally taken into the operating room.
