Chapter 896
His unwanted wife, the world’s coveted genius

âKylee! Explain yourself; why did you throw away the patientâs medical records?â
Kylee bit her lip, her hands twisting in her lap.
âI didnât do it on purpose,â she stammered.
âI was just helping my mentor clean up his office. His desk was a mess, with piles of papers everywhere⦠So I just⦠I swear, I didnât mean to! I didnât even check what was on the pages. I only saw my mentorâs handwriting all over them, so I assumed they were just discarded draftsâ¦â
But her excuse was obviously flawed and full of loopholes, unable to convince anyone.
Who cleans an office by throwing away random documents? And if Kylee had seen writing on the pages, how could she not have known they were important? She must have done it on purpose!
The truth wasâKylee had indeed done it deliberately. That day, after a petty argument with Belinda, she had stormed into her mentorâs office, still fuming. Then, she had noticed Belindaâs handwriting on the medical records. Her anger had flared. Before she could think twice, she had ripped the files apart and tossed them straight into the trash.
She had convinced herself it wouldnât matter. Braden was going to undergo a full examination anyway, and with her mentorâs expertise, he wouldnât need the medical records.
What she hadnât expected was for things to go so horribly wrong during the surgery.
Turner broke the silence once more, his voice heavy with regret.
âI take full responsibility for this. I failed to guide my student properly. As her mentor, I tried to protect her, which is why I shifted the blame to Dr. Wright earlier. That was wrong of me.â
He turned to Belinda, his expression solemn.
âI apologize, Dr. Wright. Iâm truly sorry.â
Belinda said nothing. She merely curled her lips into a cold, mocking smile.
Belinda smirked. Well, wasnât Turner quite the chameleon? That apology sure came fast.
Under normal circumstances, since her department head had already admitted fault, Belinda should have just accepted it with a polite nod and moved on. After all, getting on his bad side wouldnât do her any favors.
Butâsince when had Belinda ever played by the book?
She lifted her eyes, meeting Turnerâs gaze with a deliberate stare.
âDr. Ortiz, you falsely accused me just to cover for your student. And now, you expect me to accept a half-hearted apology as if that erases everything? Letâs say, for argumentâs sake, that Kylee truly did âaccidentallyâ throw away Bradenâs medical records. If you genuinely cared, you would have at least asked whether I had a backup or if I could recall the details of his medical history. But you didnât. Which only proves that, to you, the records were never important in the first place.â
She deliberately stressed the word âaccidentally,â her gaze unwavering. She knew perfectly well that Kylee had done it on purpose. What she hadnât anticipated was just how far Kylee had been willing to go, putting a patientâs safety on the line over a petty grudge.
