Chapter 967
His unwanted wife, the world’s coveted genius

âIf you hadnât gotten hurt today, and if Belinda hadnât called me⦠Cathy, how much longer were you planning to keep avoiding me?â
Catherineâs expression tensed slightly.
She didnât know what to say.
Ever since Johnson had confessed his feelings to her, her emotions had been in disarray.
After a prolonged silence, Catherine finally managed to speak. âI didnât know how to face you before.â
Johnson exhaled deeply. âSince I confessed my feelings to you, I knew you might avoid me, maybe even ignore me completely. I was prepared for all of that. Butâ¦â He paused, his gaze toward Catherine sincere. âI donât regret doing that.â
Catherineâs breath hitched.
At that moment, she found it impossible to articulate her feelings.
She felt the urge to flee again, to avoid confronting the situation.
âCathy, could you⦠maybe try to give me a chance?â Johnson asked, his voice tinged with desperation.
The plea in Johnsonâs voice made Catherineâs heart twinge with pain.
But she wasnât ready to think about this matter yet.
She furrowed her brow, looking back at Johnson. âJohnson, can you stop pressuring me?â
Her words struck Johnson deeply.
His throat tightened, and his heart ached as if pierced.
He lowered his eyes, nodding slightly, his voice laden with resignation. âOkay, I wonât pressure you⦠Letâs just forget I said anything today.
Letâs get out of the car.â
He then opened the door and stepped out first.
Catherine bit her lower lip, her own heart unsettled.
Johnson instinctively walked toward Catherine and tried to lift her again.
Catherine quickly said, âJohnson, I can walk on my own.â
After a pause, she added, âAnd it wouldnât look good if your mother saw us like that.â
Johnsonâs mother had always been strongly opposed to him getting close to Catherine. Seeing him carry her would certainly anger her.
Upon hearing this, Johnson stopped abruptly.
He was well aware of his motherâs strong prejudices against Catherine. He didnât want to create more difficulties for her, especially now. With a slightly hoarse voice, he asked, âThen⦠can I at least support you while you walk?â
âOkay,â Catherine replied.
Johnson then assisted Catherine into the house.
The Hoffman familyâs residence was empty. After escorting Catherine to her room, Johnson quickly left.
He knew that staying longer would only add to Catherineâs psychological burden.
