frane nodded in agreement. Tll find a time to discuss it with my After a pause, he turned to Elysia with a look of sincere apology, âIâm really sorry, Elysia, for dragging you into this mess. I didnât mean to Cause you any troubleâ
Elysia was indeed upset, primarily because of Sarahâs harsh words about Winona. She was still fuming. If Sarah werenât in such a fragile state, Elysta would have been tempted to confront herâeither physically or at the very least, yell at her to vent her frustration.
Iâm okay. I didnât really help much, and now I canât do anything more. Take good care of her. I should get going.â
As Elysia stood up to leave, Zane quickly rose to his feet. âHavenât you skipped breakfast? The food I bought must be cold by now. Let me take you out for a bite to eat.â
âNo, itâs fine. Stay with her. Iâm not hungry.â
âAt least let me walk you downstairs. The doctor gave her a sedative, she wonât be waking up anytime soon.â
Elysia, seeing his insistence, didnât refuse.
They went out together, and along the way, Zane kept repeating his apologies.
Elysia was annoyed, but not at him; her anger was directed at Sarah. So she didnât complain to Zane.
Not wanting to dwell on Sarah, she changed the subject, âWhen exactly is Winona coming back?â
Zane shrugged helplessly and said, âI wish I knew. When she left, she told me to brace myself. It could be as short as a year or as long as two or three.â
âThat long, huh?â
âWell, you know Winona. Sheâs a powerhouseâvery careerâdriven, always gives her all to her acting.â
âCanât you try to reach out to her agent? Even if thereâs a confidentiality agreement, as her husband, you have the right to be kept in the loop about her personal life, donât you?â
Zane pondered for a moment and then said, âIâve tried contacting her agent before, but I couldnât get through. Iâll think of something else. As soon as I hear anything about Winona, Iâll let you know.â
âAlright.â
Zane then looked at Elysia with a gentle concern and asked, âIs your divorce finalized yet?â
Elysia shook her head in frustration. âHavenât been able to reach him.â
Zane frowned. âIs he avoiding you on purpose?â
Elysia hesitated, unsure of how to explain. She used to think Tarquin was deliberately avoiding her, Blossom that he was using it as a way to spite her. But now she knew the truthâTarquin liked mer to silence the gossip. He was using her as a shield.
greeing with her friend > clinging to their marriage However, she couldnât bring herself to share this with Zane, so she simply said, âHis job keeps him too busy.â
Zane shook his head and said, âNo job is that demanding. Thereâs always time for a divorce. Or is itâ¦
does he still have feelings for you? Is that why he doesnât want the divorce?â
âThatâs even less likely. You know how heâs always treated me.â
Zane knew; Her husbandâs accusations of infidelity had indeed made Elysiaâs life miserable once upon a time.
âMaybe you should just tell me who he is, and Iâll talk to him for you.â
Since leaving Elysiaâs place, Zane had tried to investigate Elysiaâs husband, to no avail.
Elysia shook her head, âNo, thanks. Iâd rather handle it myself.â
Zaneâs eyes flickered with an unreadable expression but he didnât press further, switching the topic instead, âWhat are your plans now?â
âI havenât figured it out yet. Iâll play it by ear. I wonât leave Jindale City until the divorce is settled.â
She had returned with the intent to divorce and to secure citizenship for her children. Elysia was determined not to leave things unfinished.
