Chapter 153
Hitched & Hitched Again: A Comedy of Marital Mayhem ( Elysia and Tarquin)
Oriana gazed at the shocked expression on Elysiaâs face and, assuming she was scared, repeated with a smug look, âTarquin Bradford!â
Elysia frowned. âWhatâs your deal with Tarquin?â
âThatâs none of your business, but rest assured itâs way closer than whatever youâve got going with him.
I bet you couldnât even get a seat at Mr. Bradfordâs Thanksgiving table.â
Elysiaâs his wife, for Peteâs sake!
Elysia mentally snapped back, fuming, but didnât dare voice her thoughts out loud. After all, their marriage was a secret, bound by a confidentiality agreement.
âDid Tarquin send you to confront me, and to make me confess to framing Gage?â Elysia asked.
Orianaâs brow furrowed; she didnât dare admit it outright. Although Tarquinâs ties with Nola Slater were special, it was Nola who had sought her out, not Tarquin.
âYou donât need the details. All you need to know is that if you donât confess, you wonât be leaving here without a scratch todayâ
Elysia retorted, âSo even if I confess, I canât leave unharmed, right?â
Of course not! Once Elysia confessed, she would suffer even more! This was just the beginning;
Oriana hadnât even started playing hardball yet.
âSo youâre saying, even if I confess, you wonât let me go. Why should I confess then?â
Oriana glared at her and said, âAt least if you confess, you might get off a bit easier.â
Elysia glared back, unsure whether Oriana was bluffing. If she wasnât, what was Tarquinâs angle? Was he making trouble for her just because sheâd pushed for a divorce?
If that was the case, Tarquin was nothing but a scoundrel!
Elysia clenched her jaw, deciding not to dwell on Tarquinâs motives for now. She eyed Oriana, her gaze calculating, and said, âYouâre so eager for me to confess because youâve got a mission, right? Well then, we might have some common ground.â
âOh?â Oriana was suspicious.
âIf you really want me to confess, itâs not impossible. But I have my conditions.â
Oriana was wary, âWhat conditions?â
âI can cooperate with a recording, a video, whatever you want, as long as you let me go afterward.â
âHeh.â Oriana scoffed. âLet you go? No way!â
Elysia replied calmly, âWhat if I bring Keaton Huber into this? Whatâs more important for you, hurting me or getting back together with Keaton?â
Currently, with her hands tied, Elysia had no chance of fighting back. She would only lose out if she tried to force her way through. She needed to outsmart them. First, she had to free her hands.
Oriana took the bait, a flicker of interest crossing her eyes before she mocked, âYou think you can get me back with Mr. Huber? Who do you think you are?â
to reunite you two!â
âIâm just an ordinary person. Mr. Huber might not even remember who I am now, but I have a way Elysia sounded confident, and after a moment of hesitation, Oriana seemed tempted. The lure of returning to Keatonâs side was too strong to ignore.
âHow would you manage that?â
âUntie me first!â
Oriana frowned.
Elysia pressed on, âIâm asking you to untie me, not to let me go. What, you and your crew canât handle one woman?â
After another momentâs hesitation, Orianá turned to a bald henchman and ordered, âUntie her!â
Two men complied and released the ropes.
Once freed, Elysia quickly flexed her wrists, feeling immensely relieved. When she was bound, she could only be bullied. But now, it was anyoneâs game. If they dared to rough her up, theyâd better be prepared for her ruthless retaliation.
âSpill it, how are you going to get me back to Mr. Huber?â Oriana pressed eagerly.
