Chapter 74
Hitched & Hitched Again: A Comedy of Marital Mayhem ( Elysia and Tarquin)
Tarquin took a drag of his cigarette, his impatience evident as he said, âJust a woman. playing games, nothing to get worked up about.â
âWhat, sheâs trying to get into your bed?â
Tarquin shot him a glare and took another drag.
Keaton chuckled, âMan, her wanting to hop into your sheets is a good thing. Sheâs a looker; you wouldnât be losing out. You shouldâve seen the guys in the VIP lounge; their eyes were practically popping out of their heads. Even Upton, Mr. Prim and Proper, was drooling all over himself. If sheâs wrapping herself around you, consider it a blessing; donât be ungrateful.â
âShut up!â
âHey, donât get mad, Iâm serious. If she wasnât easy on the eyes, Iâd tell you to steer clear, but sheâs a knockout. Sheâs got the curves, the face, the whole package. If I hadnât caught that unique perfume on her, you wouldnât stand a chance. Iâd have made my move.â
Tarquin scoffed. âWerenât you just swooning over some new girl yesterday? And now youâre ready to jump ship?â
Keaton shrugged with a grin. âWell, that was yesterday, wasnât it?â
Tarquin pursed his lips in disdain and took another puff.
Keaton went on, âLook, youâre not getting any younger, spending every night alone in that big house of yours. Doesnât it get lonely?â
âNope.â
When he was alone, his thoughts always turned to Elijahâs mother. Day in, day out, how could he feel lonely?
Before Keaton could respond, Tarquin added, âSheâs got backup. Her cozying up to me might not be all about getting between the sheets.â
Keatonâs expression turned serious, his eyes narrowing as he asked, âWhat do you mean? Someoneâs trying to pull a fast one with a femme fatale?â
âYeah.â
âWho? The Bradford family?â
Tarquin furrowed his brows. âNot sure, but sheâs had private meetings with Gideon.â
Keaton took a contemplative puff on his cigarette, curiosity piqued, âIf you know sheâs got ulterior motives, why not send her packing? Why let her get close?â
09:45 Tarquinâs expression darkened. âSheâs good with child psychology and can help Elijah get better. When Corbin had his episode, she sorted him out.â
âWhat?â Now, Keaton was genuinely concerned. He was shocked. âThe âpretty ladyâ Corbin mentioned, thatâs her?â
âYeah.â
Keaton muttered, âOh my god! Lucky I didnât hit on her because of you today. Otherwise, my sis wouldâve gone medieval on me!â
Mrs. Denton, Keatonâs sister and Corbinâs mother, was a force to be reckoned with.
They say if youâre going to beat your brother, do it while heâs young; wait too long, and youâll lose your chance.
Mrs. Denton never went easy on Keaton when they were kids, which is why, even now, he would get nervous around her.
Just the other day, heâd gone to see his nephew, and Mrs. Denton, in tears, told him that after three years, Corbin had finally called her âmommy! She went on about how beautiful, gentle, accomplished, and perfect Ms. Thorne was.
In passing, heâd joked, âIf sheâs that perfect, set me up, why donât you?â
The response was a swift slap that left his ears ringing. Mrs. Denton, pointing and wailing. âIf you dare make a move on Ms. Thorne, Iâll thrash you! Keep your hands off the good women!â
Elysia had become the Denton familyâs savior, and everyone from top to bottom was grateful to her.
