Chapter 91
Hitched & Hitched Again: A Comedy of Marital Mayhem ( Elysia and Tarquin)
Wheatfield Homestay.
Blossomâs eyes widened in astonishment as she looked over the breakfast spread Zane had brought home, exclaiming, âGoodness, breakfast from the Jinpeach Restaurant? Did you really go out of your way to get this? And so much variety!â
âYep, itâs the best breakfast in town, and Elysia hasnât been home in ages. I wasnât sure if her tastes have changed over the years, so I got a bit of everything just in case.â
Blossom tskâtsked in amazement, âHow could it not be delicious? A single muffin costs a fortune.â
Elysia gasped, âHow much?â
Blossom gestured with her small hands, âOne muffin, 800 bucks!â
âThat expensive?â
âMmmâhmm, hard to believe, right? Tarquin really knows how to rake in the doughâa true capitalist through and through!â
Jinpeach Restaurant was one of the businesses owned by Tarquin.
Elysiaâs expression changed slightly, given that Tarquin was her husband.
With muffins priced at $800 each, Zane had bought six, in addition to three hearty oatmeal bowls and a dozen side dishes. The breakfast had cost them just shy of ten grand.
Elysia, trying to calm her nerves, said to Zane, âYouâve really gone all out.â
âWeâre friends, no need for formalities. Come on, sit and eat before it gets cold.â
âYou havenât eaten either, have you? Join us.â
âSure.â
As the three of them ate and chatted, Elysia asked, âHave you heard from Winona lately?â
Zane shook his head, âNot yet.
Blossom chimed in, âSheâs been gone for over a year. Youâd think sheâd be back by now. A movie shoot usually only takes a few months.â
Zane replied, âThis time itâs different. She said to brace myself, that it might be a year or two before she could return. If there were any complications, it could take even longer.â
âThat long? Must be a major production.â
âYeah, Winonaâs always been ambitious, always challenging herself.â
âHas she been in touch with her folks?â Elysia asked.
Zana shook his head again. She signed a nonâdisclosure agreement and canât contact anyone.â
Elysia looked embarrassed, not quite understanding the rules of their industry.
âHow have you been these past years?â Zane steered the conversation towards her.
âAlright, I guess.â
âAfter the scandal, you disappeared so suddenly⦠we were all terrifiedâ¦â
âI had a bad rep back then and didnât want to drag you guys down with me, so I left. quietly.â
âYou always saw things too black and white. Weâre not just friends, weâre practically family. Thereâs no such thing as dragging us down. We know you, and thereâs no way youâd do anything like âcheating within marriage. Winona and I even reached out to the best lawyers to help you fight your case, but then you went off the grid. And that was six years ago.â
Elysia felt remorseful as she said, âI was young and scared, not thinking about fighting the case or assigning blame; I just wanted to escape. I caused you all so much worryâ¦â
âNo need for formalities among friends. We never saw you as an outsider. If you ever decide you want to appeal, just say the word, and weâll be there to help.â
Elysia smiled softly. âItâs all in the past now. I donât want to appeal anymore. Iâm living well now and donât want to dwell on past troubles.â
âGood point. If you donât want to appeal, then put it all behind you. We have to keep moving forward.â
âExactly.â
âGot any plans for the future?â
âTo live a good life with my kids.â
Zane looked surprised, âYou have kids?â
The triplets were still snoozing in the bedroom, unseen by Zane, which explained his astonishment.
Elysia beamed, âThree boys, theyâre five years old now.â
Zane was taken aback. âFive years old? Theyâre his, and⦠you went through with the pregnancy?â
