Chapter 627
Always Been Yours
Eventually, Janet had no choice and could only suppress the discomfort in her heart. She bit her lips as she muttered, âI was careless about the mission this time. I thought I had cornered Blood Eagle to a dead end, and he had no way to resist my attack. I didnât expect that he would have so many tactics up his sleeves.â
Nicholas frowned as he reprimanded her, âDidnât I teach you guys before not to underestimate the ability of any enemy even if they seemed cornered?â
Meanwhile, Janet had an entranced look as she looked at the ruthless man who overlapped with the image in her memory.
Fortunately, she promptly snapped back to her senses. Then, she lowered her eyes and said, âAt that time, I just wanted to end this mission as soon as possible and didnât think much.â
As soon as she finished saying that, she paused for a while. The disappointment in her tone earlier disappeared, and she looked at Nicholas with bright eyes. âAlthough I accidentally let myself fall into the trap, I think itâs worth it in exchange for your concern.â
Unfortunately, Nicholas gave her a cold look before he replied indifferently, âI did nothing. Itâs the nurse who takes care of you.â
Janet felt sadness welling deep in her heart at that moment while listening to the manâs alienating words. Therefore, she bit her lower lip and insisted. âBut I heard Kaiden say that youâre helping take care of me in the hospital. So, I must thank you properly when I get better.â
âThat wonât be necessary. My former superior, who is also your current superior, Mr. Spurse, told me to take care of you, so Iâm just doing as told.â Nicholas rejected her gratitude mercilessly.
Instantly, Janetâs bright eyes dimmed in disappointment.
It turns out that he did all these simply because Mr. Spurse asked him to? I still think that Iâm somehow special to him. Guess itâs just my wishful thinking again. What should I do? I still donât want to let go of my feelings for him.
At that thought, Janetâs eyes went half-lidded as she was deep in thought, and her long, thick eyelashes concealed all the emotions in her eyes.
Forget it! I wonât let go since I canât bring myself to do so. Besides, Iâll stay here for a long time because of my injury. I have the opportunity to get along well with Nicholas. Moreover, I donât think Iâll be any worse than that woman Tessa Reinhart. I believe even if Nicholas fell in love with someone else, it should be a temporary interest. I am the only woman who suits Nicholas the most!
Meanwhile, Nicholas was unaware of Janetâs thoughts.
âSince youâre fine, Iâll inform Mr. Spurse.â As soon as he finished speaking, he turned around and went to the balcony.
As she regarded the man standing straight-backed on the balcony, she could no longer hide the love in her eyes. Instead, she stared at the man fondly.
Nicholas seemed aware of her intense gaze as he frowned and turned his head back.
Janet was startled by his abrupt actions. It was as if she did not expect Nicholas to turn around suddenly. However, she quickly suppressed the adoration in her eyes and showed an alluring smile to Nicholas.
Unmoved, Nicholas held the phone and turned around. Then, he said indifferently, âMr. Spurse, Janet is out of danger now. Sheâs fine.â
âThat is good news! Thank goodness that sheâs fine.â Nicholasâ former superior, Cole Spurse, breathed a sigh of relief on the other end of the phone.
Nicholas narrowed his eyes while looking at the sky and said coldly, âMr. Spurse, when are you going to send someone to pick her up?â
âIâm afraid I canât do that at the moment.â
âDid something happen?â
âJanet blew her cover in this mission, so she canât return for the time being. I have already sent someone to deal with this matter, but I still have to trouble you for a while and arrange for her recovery before things get better. I will send someone to pick her up when the time is right.â
Nicholas furrowed his brows tightly when he heard that she would be imposing on him longer. He never liked trouble, yet he eventually agreed after thinking about how Cole took care of him in the past.
However, he had no intention to take care of Janet personally despite agreeing to Coleâs request.
After he hung up, he turned around and returned to the ward.
When she saw this, she played dumb and inquired, âWhat did Mr. Spurse say? When will he arrange for someone to come and pick me up?â, âYour identity has been exposed, so he wonât be arranging for someone to pick you up for the time being.â
Nicholas relayed Coleâs words concisely. Then, he revealed his plan to her. âIâll arrange for the servants at home to take care of you while you are in your resting period.â
Janet would be lying if she said she was not disappointed after hearing that.
I At hrst, she thought it was her chance when she heard that Cole had asked Nicholas to take care of her. Alas, she didnât expect that she had celebrated her fortune too soon.
