Chapter 749
Always Been Yours
Chapter 749 Your Love Drags Nicholas Down The nervousness in Tessa alleviated after hearing Nicholasâ words, and she smiled at him, believing there was nothing she needed to be afraid of with him by her side.
Of course, the coupleâs interaction didnât go unnoticed by the Sawyer elders.
Remus continued to pull a straight face, his mood indiscernible.
On the other hand, Tobias and Stefania gazed at Tessa with mixed emotions, for never in their lives had they ever seen their eldest son this gentle.
Of course, Tessa was unaware of everything.
She stepped forward with Nicholas and greeted the Sawyer elders graciously, âGrandpa, Dad⦠Mom.â
Tobias nodded in response, still considerably amiable, but Stefania only looked impassively at the gentle, gracious, and courteous young woman.
Remus, on the other hand, remained straight-faced and clearly upset.
Even so, Tessa still remained smiling as she hinted at Timothy, who got the cue and handed the gifts in his hands to her.
Though Nicholas said he would prepare the gifts, Tessa thought it was still better that she prepared them herself.
âI heard you like tea, Old Master Sawyer, so I deliberately collected a few types overseas. I hope you like it.â
While speaking, Tessa pulled out an exquisitely packaged tea and presented it to Remus, who only shot her an indifferent glance, showing no inclination to accept the gift.
Nicholas turned grim upon seeing so and shot a glance at Sebastian, who was standing aside.
Sebastian nodded and took the gift from Tessa, who glanced gratefully at Nicholas. After all, she would certainly be stuck in an awkward situation if Remus kept ignoring her.
Likewise, Timothy wasnât any happier about the situation either.
However, because it was within his expectations, he said nothing, intending to play the situation by ear.
Next, Tessa brought out Stefaniaâs gift.
Knowing Stefaniaâs love for the violin, Tessa gifted her a sheet music collection.
As for Tobias, Tessa gifted him a painting.
The gifts were all lots she managed to bid from the auction.
After handing out all the gifts, Tessa returned to Nicholasâ side.
Just then, Timothy stepped forward and introduced himself. âGood evening, Old Master Sawyer, Mr. and Mrs. Sawyer. Iâm Timothy and Tessaâs only living relative. Since our families are supposed to meet today, Iâve invited myself over.â
Tobias and Stefania sized Timothy up upon hearing his words, somewhat surprised, for they could sense that he was no average Joe from his speech, especially his neither overbearing nor servile gaze.
This girl does have a nice younger brother, the couple complimented.
On the other hand, Remus made no comments as he sized Timothy up, but he snorted when he shifted his gaze to Tessa. âI didnât realize youâre actually so scheming. What? Did you think you could marry into the Sawyer Family just because youâre pregnant?â
Remusâ words undoubtedly upset Nicholas and Timothy, especially the former.
However, just as he wanted to retort his grandfather, Tessa stopped him.
As much as Remusâ words upset her as well, she knew this was her battle, and Remus would only despise her even more if she let Nicholas shield her.
âIâm afraid youâve mistaken me, Grandpa. I have no intentions of using the child in my belly to marry into your family.â At that, Tessa fearlessly looked straight into Remusâ eyes and continued, âNo doubt many women hope to marry into your family, but not me. I have my dreams to pursue.â
âThatâs what they all say. If youâre so different, then why are you here now?â Remus had no intention of sparing Tessa any mercy, behaving aggressively.
However, it didnât bother Tessa as she explained composedly, âNo one can decide for themselves who they fall in love with. Iâm standing here because I love Nicholas.â
âWell, do you know your love will only drag Nicholas down?â Remus struck again, this time hitting home. âNicholas is the patriarch of the Sawyer Family. He needs a helpmate who can stand next to him and provide him aid. What can you do for him?â
Tessa held her breath as her face turned a little pale, having difficulty answering Remusâ question for a moment.
