Chapter 6

My Heartless Alpha

The beast in front of me was worse than any nightmare. Saliva dripped from its canines whilst it was emitting threatening, fear- inducing growls. Midnight black fur wholly covered it's scarily large frame giving the impression of evilness and violence.

But it was the eyes that rendered me speechless, as they did last time I saw this creature in the woods.

It wasn't possible. The supernatural weren't real, this was a figment of my imagination I kept repeating to myself in a meagre attempt to calm my erratic breathing.

Was this really Asher?

How is this possible?

As the wolf inched closer to me , I retreated to the far wall of the room, fear overpowering me, my legs trembling.

This animal could easily snap my neck or rip out my jugular without remorse.

By this point I prayed Asher was somewhere inside this bloodthirsty beast, however, his actions wouldn't be much different.

As I leant against the wall for support, my eyes scanned the room for any sharp weapons to defend myself.

Abruptly, the beast's body rippled and distorted, the growling ceasing, being replaced by inorganic sounds. Closing my eyes for protection, unsure of what was happening during this shift, I could hear the unnatural movement of bones and my ragged breathing, sending nauseous feelings through me.

After an unquantifiable amount of time, I peeked open my eyes.

Stood in front of me once more was Asher, in all his naked glory.

He wasn't  making any attempts to cover up so I shifted my eyes towards the ceiling waiting for him to redress, a blush spreading up my cheeks.

Much to my dismay, from my peripheral vision I could see him walk towards me intently.

My body froze on the spot. Nerves and anxiousness sifting through me.

He stopped when i could feel his hot breath on my neck, fear and pleasure ascending as shivers ran down my spine.

"Do you understand now?"

He spoke firmly whilst lifting his head to look me in the eyes. His grey orbs radiating the hardness and carelessness I was familiar with.

His hands were circling my waist sending uncontrollable sparks through my body.

But nothing in that moment compared to how much I wanted to hit him. Hit him for purposely scaring me, touching me without permission, hurting me. So I did.

My left hand, which was dormant, now burned with intent as I clasped my fingers, turning my hand into a rock solid fist.

It flew towards his face with such quickness that he couldn't comprehend what was happening.

My hand collided with his cheekbone and he only slightly stumbled from my hit, most likely from shock.

"Don't you dare scare me like that or hurt me again. You maintain this shitty façade but I know a part of you cares, nobody is heartless. So I'm asking you to please just leave me alone and take me home, I want no part in this"

I ranted whilst my hands were flying through the air to prove my point. My throat was sore by the time I was finished shouting.

I lost a little bit of my courage when I finally looked up at Asher. I'd never seen him, or anyone apart from my Father, this angry before.

His body was visibly shaking, his fists turning white by his sides, his jaw clenched, his mouth curling into a sadistic growl.

When I looked up at his eyes, fear trembling through me, they were staring at mine darkly and evilly. His irises were turning black, the grey I was familiar with being killed off and replaced by a threatening darkness.

"Run"  He whispered before his body began distorting and rippling violently, black fur arising.

Terror rose within me but I didn't need him to tell me twice as I ran out the room and sprinted up the marble stairs, my arms flailing, my legs moving at the fastest possible pace.

I had no clue of where I was running but I had no time to ponder as I ran down a hallway and rapidly grabbed and pulled a random door, slamming it behind me.

Quickly surveying the room my eyes latched onto a large wooden cabinet only a few metres away from the door.

Unsure of the time I had left before it found me, I quickly moved to the cabinet and pushed it, using all of my strength.

It was most likely the adrenaline which bestowed me the extra strength necessary to move the large wooden structure, but it only half covered the door before I heard the beasts paw prints scraping across the hallway flooring menacingly.

Terror sliced through me and my efforts doubled in a last- ditch attempt despite the erratic beating of my heart and trembling of my body.

"No no no" I whispered to myself as the cabinet was barely moving. My whole body froze as I saw it's shadow underneath the door, like it was hunting its prey.

"Fuck"  I stalked over to the other side of the room, noticing a large bay window in the corner of the bedroom.

Running over to it I began fumbling with the locks but the crippling sounds of the door being smashed in, wood splintering and ripping, stopped me in my tracks.

I couldn't move. As much as I tried and begged my body,i was paralysed in place, awaiting the fury of the wolf.

The banging had ceased, replaced by the unpleasant sounds of its body scraping through the sharp wooden splinters of the broken door. By now, the cabinet was on the floor at the other side of the room, ripped and  clawed with wooden remnants scattered across the floor.

It stalked in quickly and fiercely as if to claim what's it's rightfully owed. Internally, I was thrashing, urging my body to break the glass and jump. Physically, I was shocked and terrorised into paralysis.

But this time the animal wasn't snapping it's jaws at me. As it stalked forward it looked at me with some sick kind of happiness with underlying elements of anger.

It was as if something inside it snapped as it lurched forward pushing my body to the floor forcefully. Pain sliced through me but I pushed it down as fear took precedence.

It stood looking over me, pinning me to the ground whilst it's sharp claws pierced my skin.

A whimper escaped my lips before I could hold it back. If I was going to die then I wouldn't die begging for my life or showing weakness. I would die with strength.

Abruptly, it lowered its head, it's snout touching my chin, it's grey irises glaring into mine.

I met its gaze with a kind of power I didn't know I was capable of. We all die at some point, death is inevitable, which made me think about all my regrets and the things I'll never get to experience. But I thought about all of the great things in my life, relationships, adventures, endless memories.

As I replayed these thoughts in my head, reminiscing and enjoying my last living moments, I felt it's canines pierce my neck. After a moment it released my skin, looking down at me with approval before strutting out of the room, leaving me to deal with the unbearable heat that spread through my body alone. Shock surfaced as well as uncontrollable screams and screeches of pain. I'd never felt anything this agonising before, it felt as if my body was on fire.

But something was wrong. I wasn't dying, only small amounts of blood was trickling out of my neck , i felt more alive than ever despite my tiredness and the unrelenting heat that spread through me.

As the agony subsided, I turned onto my stomach, crawling across the hardwood floor towards a large 4 poster bed only metres away from me, which looked unscathed from the recent attack.

Exhaustion and heat was spreading through me, worse than any fever I'd ever endured. Lifting my bruised and bleeding body onto the burgundy bed sheets, I curled up, ignoring the pain, willingly becoming sleep's next victim.
