Chapter 389
Sold To a Handsome Trillionaire by Wanda Lowe
Chapter 389 Who Was the Man at Dinner?
Caroline slowly opened her eyes.
Finished The car was already parked in Ellison Residenceâs garden. The moment she took in her surroundings, dizziness hit her like a wave. The world seemed to spin.
She pushed herself out of the car, gripping the door for balance. But the moment she took a step, nausea overwhelmed her.
Clutching the door with one hand and pressing the other against her chest, she bent over and vomited.
That reckless drivingâhow could anyone endure it?
She retched until there was nothing left, her body drained, her mouth coated with a bitter, burning aftertaste. It took a long moment before the nausea subsided, leaving her weak, shaky, and utterly drained.
David stood a few feet away, leaning lazily against the hood of the car, arms crossed, his expression unreadable.
Caroline inhaled deeply, her legs feeling like they could give out at any moment. She wanted to head inside, but even walking felt like too much effort.
Instead, she glared at him.
âThatâs all it took to wear you down?â His voice was calm, almost amused. âYour tolerance is pathetic.â
âWhat the hell is wrong with you?â She snapped.
âJust a drive,â he said smoothly. âI thought youâd enjoy it.â
She let out a sharp laugh. âWell, thanks, but no thanks.â
Grabbing a water bottle from the car, she rinsed her mouth, fighting the overwhelming urge to spit the water right at him.
For a split second, she really considered spitting the water right at him.
She wanted to.
Badly.
But she held back.
She had already pissed him off earlier when she spilled milk all over his suit. Another provocation? Not worth the risk. She didnât feel like dealing with the consequences.
The night had already settled in.
Lately, Caroline couldnât shake the strange unease that crept in after darkâespecially when David was around.
Still, the more she thought about it, the more pissed off she became. Without thinking twice, she grabbed the water bottle and hurled it at him.
Thud! It hit him right in the chest.

David barely reacted. Without so much as flinching, he kicked the bottle aside. âChildish.â
Finished âYouâre the childish one!â Caroline shot back. âWhy were you even at the restaurant? Were you following me? Or do you just have people watching my every move?â
âI should be the one asking you questions,â he said casually.
She frowned. âWhat are you even talking about?â
The entire afternoon and evening had been spent handling Cameronâs visit, fully dedicated to work. She hadnât even crossed paths with David, let alone done anything to provoke him!
âThe man you had dinner with.â His voice was low, edged with something she couldnât quite read. âWho is he?â
Caroline blinked.
âYouâve never smiled like that when youâre having dinner with me,â he added, his tone sharp.
She stared at him, stunned. Was he serious right now?
âA restaurant that costs thousands per mealâquite the place for a romantic evening,â he continued smoothly. âTell me, did you enjoy it?â
Realization hit her. Caroline stared at him in utter disbelief.
The reckless driving. The silent fury. The passiveâaggressive remarks.
âYou mean to tell me that you were speeding, throwing a tantrum, and acting like a complete maniac just because I had dinner with another man?â
David didnât answer.
Which, in itself, was an answer.
Caroline let out a short laugh, but there was no amusement in itâonly disbelief and frustration.
She had spent the entire ride terrified, thinking she might die-
And it was because David was jealous of Cameron?
âAre you kidding me? Are you insane?â she asked, voice sharp. âWith you around, do you really think Iâd be dumb enough to go on a date with another man?â
David scoffed. âIs there anything you wouldnât dare to do?â
Caroline always had a way of pushing his limitsâdoing exactly what would get under his skin the most.
Caroline looked at him, frustration simmering. âNash wonât even meet with me. His driver simply met me once, and you still made a big deal out of it. Do you really think Iâd be reckless enough to have dinner with another man?â
David gave a cold chuckle. âOr maybe... You just like the attention. Maybe you enjoy being pursued.â
The words hit like a knife. A sharp pang shot through her chest, sudden and unexpected.

Finished Davidâs voice was smooth, detached. âThe more men who want you, the more people chasing after you. the more it proves just how irresistible you are. Isnât that right?â
