But Su Li wasn’t about to let the matter slide so easily. He marched over, face scrunched in righteous indignation. “Dad! Xu Sheng’s mom is awful! Mom saved her son, and she still tried to accuse her of poisoning him with bad pork! No wonder Mom didn’t want to sell her pork before. She’s the worst!”

Su Shen’s expression darkened, his jaw tightening. He turned to Gu Zi, concern flashing in his eyes. “Are you okay? Don’t worry—if she thinks our pork is so dangerous, then she doesn’t need to eat it. Let her find her pork somewhere else.”

Su Li pouted, clearly unimpressed. “Ugh, Dad, you’re so annoying. You act like the whole world doesn’t already know Mom’s your wife. Boring!” With that, he dashed off like a little cannonball.

Su Le, not wanting to be left out, wriggled out of Gu Zi’s lap and scurried after her brother. Su Bing quickly followed to keep an eye on them.

Su Shen nodded. “Don’t worry about it. I already know where to start digging. We’ll have answers soon.”

Gu Zi’s expression sharpened. “Good. If he really is the father of our children, he doesn’t get to just walk away from this. And what about the pig farm situation? Any updates?”

Noticing the couple slipping into serious conversation, Su Jing excused herself and left the room. Su Shen watched his sister retreat and made a mental note—she was getting more considerate lately.

Then he turned back to Gu Zi.

“It’s handled,” he said. “Just like you predicted, someone deliberately tried to sabotage us. Good thing you went to check on the farm that day. If I hadn’t been there to deal with it, the farm might have been completely set up.”

Gu Zi’s eyes widened. “Do you know who’s behind it? What if they try something else?”

Su Shen’s voice was calm, but there was a steely edge to it. “They won’t. I reported everything to the authorities. The police are already investigating, and the main culprits have been arrested.”

It was true—things had come dangerously close to disaster. If they hadn’t caught the problem early, the farm might have been accused of being the source of the swine fever outbreak. Word had already spread among the farm workers. They now referred to Gu Zi as a “lucky star,” convinced she was a blessing sent to protect Su Shen.
