Chapter One

Uncharted Territory

Adrian's POV

I slammed my palms on my desk where I was struggling to draw, "Being a human is getting too complicated...why can't I just be a cat." I groaned.

I heard my roommate snort from behind me. I spun around in my swivel chair and glared at him, my un-styled bangs getting in my eyes in the process.

My roommate snorted again, looking up from his book, "This is why you need a haircut, Adrian."

"I do not need a haircut, Marcus, I need HAIRS cut. Plural." I pointed my finger at him with a smirk.

"JAR. Now." Marcus pointed to the jar that was sitting on the end of my bed side table. It was labeled "Shitty Puns".

I sighed but got a dollar out of my pocket, sliding off my chair and onto the floor like a slug. "Whyyyyyy...this is stupiiiidddd."

"No, you're stupid, that's why we need this jar."

I glared at Marcus and slithered over to the jar, dropped my dollar in, and slithered back to my desk. I sat back in my chair and took a drink of my coffee.

"Was that really needed, did you really have to crawl across the floor."

"I didn't crawl, I slithered, get it right."

Marcus sighed, "why did I agree to room with you, I regret it already and it's only been three months."

I looked Marcus in the eye, "is this coffee bitter?" I took a sip without breaking eye contact, shook my head and added, "nope, it must be you."

"You're right, I am bitter, thanks for noticing." Marcus went back to his book.

I opened and closed my mouth like a fish on land, trying to think of a good comeback. Grumbling, I turned around and went back to struggling with my paper. After a few minutes of mumbling to myself and angrily typing only to delete every other word I felt like someone was staring at me. I turned around and looked at Marcus.

"You're judging me." I pointed out.

"It's what I do - It's a hobby of mine." He smirked and winked.

I narrowed my eyes and looked him suspiciously, "did...did you just wink at me?"

"Yes? Why does that warrant you staring at me like a crazy person?"

"You winked at me...the soulless shell of a human WINKED at me." I pretended to look terrified, "What does this mean? Does this mean you've finally joined my team?"

Marcus rolled his eyes but was slightly smiling at the same time. "For the last time I'm not gay, can't a guy just casually wink at his roommate without being ridiculed? Jeez."

I rolled my eyes and glanced back to my paper that, sadly, wasn't writing itself. Sighing, I laid my head on the table. Out of the corner of my eye I could see Marcus looking at me. I swear he was smiling at me, almost like he ENJOYED to look at me...he's such a weirdo.

"Since you're obviously not getting any work done, do you wanna go see a movie?" He asked.

I jumped up from my chair and fast walked to the door, "YES PLEASE!" I yelled. "You'll have to wait for me to get ready." He said as I was grabbing my coat on the way out the door. I waited for Marcus in the hallway.

"HURRY YOUR ASS UP, THIS WAS YOUR IDEA." I shouted after about 15 minutes, crossing my arms in a huff.

"CHILL, I'M ALMOST READY." He yelled back.

When he was finally ready I was honestly shocked. He looked really good, and I mean REALLY GOOD. Like damn son, what magazine did you come from? His hair was spiked up in the front and kinda swooped to the side a bit, he was wearing a white t-shirt with a green/brown jacket over it, he had denim skinny jeans on with a tan and brown flannel around his waist.

Marcus noticed me staring and said, "I know I look amazing, but there's no need to stare." He smirked and headed down the hallway. I was left behind, staring at his perfect butt as I followed. I hurried to catch up to him, "Why are you so dressed up? We're just going to a movie. It's not like this is a date."This isn't a date right? I thought.

"I know it's not," he huffed, "I just felt like dressing up, okay?" He walked faster and I was once again left behind.

What did I do? What did I say? Jesus Christ this boy is difficult. I thought as I shook my head and jogged to catch up with Marcus's long strides.

We walked in silence until we made it to his truck. I quite literally hopped into the passengers seat as Marcus sat in the drivers.

"So what movie are we going to see?" I asked.

Marcus shrugged and backed out the truck, being careful not to hit our neighbors cars. "I don't care, whatever you want to see."

"Are you sure?" I asked, "This was your idea."

"I'm sure," He nodded.

I glanced at him and he was extremely focused on the road, but there was a light tinge of pink dusting his cheeks. What is up with him today? Is he embarrassed? I thought. Out loud I said, "Are you sick?"

"What?" He asked, looking sideways at me, "No, why?"

"You're cheeks are red, and I've never seen you blush so I don't know what that looks like," I shrugged, facing forward and watching the road. "No big deal."

I looked at him out of the corner of my eye and I was surprised to see his cheeks turn an even darker red. I smirked to myself. What is this? I thought, why is he blushing? I like it.

We were at the mall in no time, I snuck many glances at Marcus but he was always focused on the road.

As we stood in line to get our tickets we were trying to decide on what movie to see.

"How about Guardians Of The Galaxy?" I suggested.

"Nah, I've already seen it."

"Okay...What about-" I gasp and repeatedly smack Marcus's arm, "We HAVE to see Split! I've been wanting to see it since it came out!" I looked grabbed his arm and looked up at him, giving him my best puppy-dog eyes.

"You know I don't do very good with scary movies..." He sighed, "But fine, we can see it." He went up to the counter and bought our tickets.

"You didn't have to buy my ticket you know." I pouted.

"I know," He smiled at me, "But I wanted to."

I blushed and looked away, "Well, thank you."

"No problem," he chuckled, "The guy said theater 20, right?

"Yup," I responded, popping the 'P'.

As we walked into the theater I was literally jumping up and down, "I'm so excited!"

Marcus chuckled, "You're cute."

I froze, then smirked, "Did you just call me CUTE?"

His eyes widened, "What? NO. I didn't say anything. Let'sgofindaseat." He hurriedly walked away from me. Mumbling something to himself as he passed me.

I followed and saw that he was already sitting down, his hands over his eyes. I sat down next to him and patiently waited for the movie to start or for Marcus to say something to me, whichever came first.
