Chapter 116

one hundred fourteen

Against all odds - Minsung [✔]

It was a quiet February evening and the sun had set already. The city's streets were illuminated by streetlamps, and hardly anyone was around since the weather was very cold and unpleasant.

Jisung wanted to eat dinner already, but he couldn't since Minho wasn't here yet. The demons had planned to meet up in hell for some important matters which they didn't specify.

Well, he couldn't do anything about it. He sighed, wishing he had someone to talk to in order to distract himself from his boredom, but he was all alone in the house.

Not even Mochi was here as it had gone outside earlier today and not returned since. The kitty had a mind of its own and sometimes disappeared randomly only to reappear hours later.

With nothing better to do, he trudged to the kitchen and went on to wash the dishes which were piled up in the sink. It was the most productive thing he could think of doing.

Suddenly, the doorbell rang, the sound surprising him and tearing him apart from his work. He closed the faucet and hurried to the front door, wondering who would visit him at this hour.

He glanced through the peephole and was surprised to see a familiar demon... Someone who he didn't want to encounter anymore—Jeongin.

He was terrified, but his confusion took over him. First of all, how in the world had Jeongin found this place? Second, what was he doing here?

He was about to put his hand on the doorknob, but hesitated. Something wasn't right. He immediately inched backward and tried to calm his breathing.

"Hey," Jeongin's voice called from outside. "I know you're in there. Why don't you open the door for me? I wanna apologize... for everything."

Jisung's heart leaped into his throat. Of course he wouldn't open the door, hell no. So he continued to move further back.

A wave of sizzling heat suddenly rushed towards his face as the door was kicked down with force. He stared at Jeongin's red eyes that brimmed with loathing.

Terrified, he used his magic to defend himself, encasing his body in shimmering light that served as a barrier between them two. "What do you want?" he snapped, not letting his fear show.

"To make it short, I want you dead," Jeongin said in a cruel tone, summoning flames that snaked over his arms. "Let's get this over with. I've wasted enough time trying to find your home."

His body erupted in flames. They covered all of him. His skin was fire, his hair was hire—even his eyes were filled with flames. He looked like a true monster now.

Bottomless fear gnawed at Jisung as tears pricked at his eyes. If only Minho was here. But what else could he do? He was all alone. He had to face this on his own.

To be continued...
