Chapter 118

one hundred sixteen

Against all odds - Minsung [✔]

As Jisung slowly woke up, a monotonous beeping reached his ears. His body hurt, every limb ached and he could barely move.

His eyelids fluttered open and he glanced around confusedly, easily recognizing the white room he was in—a hospital room.

While his tired eyes roamed around the room, they spotted something unusual. Or rather, someone. He blinked, attempting to make out the face of who he was looking at.

He felt groggy and his vision was blurry. All he was sure of was that the person sitting right next to his bed had blond hair and... wings?!

Out of sheer disbelief, he rubbed his eyes and fluttered them a couple of times before his vision turned clear. He gasped.

Unexpectedly, the stranger's eyes widened when he realized that Jisung was awake. "You... you're finally awake! Oh my God!" he sputtered.

Jisung couldn't believe his eyes. Changbin was the one sat next to him. How the hell was he alive?! But most importantly, where was Minho?

"I'll get the doctor for you, and while I'm at it, I'll get you some food from the cafeteria," Changbin said kindly with a smile and disappeared through the door.

Soon, a doctor entered the room, armed with a clipboard. She appeared to be relieved when she saw that Jisung was awake. She stood next to his bed and smiled at him.

"It's good to see that you are awake now," she said, glancing at her files briefly. "My name is Dr. Chae." The doctor went through her list, asking questions to Jisung while taking notes of his answers.

She was patient and didn't hesitate to explain to Jisung everything that had happened. She sensed his confusion. It was clear.

"You were hit by a drunk driver," she started. "He was on the way home from a party and didn't see the red light in time."

Jisung's eyes widened. His breath hitched. He was what now?! The last thing he remembered was him fighting for his life during a fire, not getting hit by a drunk driver!

"Someone at the crash site quickly called an ambulance and gave you first aid. That someone being your friend, Changbin."

"It was a miracle that you made it since you were in a critical state when we began the surgery. The side of your torso was pierced by a scrap of metal and you lost a lot of blood, but we were able to save you."

"It's very important that you move as little as possible in the next week and even afterwards you shouldn't strain yourself for at least a month."

"Your left wrist is sprained and you suffered a concussion, but you need not to worry. Everything will be fine if you rest and be careful."

Minutes later after she had explained everything, she left the room, leaving Jisung to his thoughts. He didn't feel any calmer after his talk with the doctor. His worries weren't eased.

He was still in confusion. And he knew that if there was anyone else who could answer all his questions, it would be Changbin.

To be continued...
