Chapter 58

fifty-six

Against all odds - Minsung [✔]

Jisung gazed at Minho, seeing that his eyes were closed. He seemed to have calmed down now. "Don't you think that you've been asleep for long enough?" He remarked quietly, his smile filled with adoration for the demon. "Will you get up?"

"No, I'm not getting up. I want to... I want to stay by your side for a while," he mumbled. It wasn't like Jisung could refuse him, so he let himself lie on his back on the cold floor, and he pulled the demon down with him.

Minho hugged Jisung's waist and tangled his legs with his, getting comfortable. Jisung didn't try to move away either; he enjoyed being with the demon after a month of separation, the strange void within his heart finally being filled.

Slowly, he was starting to get tired too, but sleep just didn't come to him. He sighed and opened his eyes to stare at the ceiling until he suddenly felt the coldest and softest peck on his cheek. Taken aback, he winced and snapped his head around to Minho's direction.

"What was that for?" He asked. He was utterly confused; considering how much Minho clung to him now had him wonder yet again why he had left him in the first place. However, he didn't need to ponder much on that thought since Minho seemed to had read right through him.

"I'm sorry... Leaving you had been my way of trying to keep you safe from the demons who aimed to kill bonded humans. For the past few weeks, I had been busy slaying demons."

"But I soon realized that parting ways with you had been a very stupid idea. I tried to approach you a couple of times, but I chickened out, thinking that you didn't want to see me anymore after what I did to you," he explained, and that shut Jisung up for some time.

"You stupid, stupid, demon!" He yelled agitatedly after a long silence filled the room. "Why couldn't you just tell me that? You made me go through so much pain and anguish just because of your stupid actions."

"I even started believing that you actually hated me." A part of him wanted to give Minho a tirade for making him go through hell for a whole month, but at the same time, he was thankful that he admitted to his own stupidity; it made him feel slightly satisfied.

"I could never hate you. You are really important to me and that's why I took it upon myself to protect you from all threats," he muttered, his eyes moving to look at the window behind Jisung, staring outside with a frown.

"Wait, what? I need you to say that again," Jisung sputtered in disbelief, and Minho looked at him hesitantly before he finally got the courage to respond.

"If you want me to spell it our for you, then fine, I will do just that! Listen closely, you cheeky human. You are very important to me and I am not planning on letting you go again."

Now, Jisung was really speechless. The strange pain he had briefly seen in Minho's eyes disappeared and was replaced by a different emotion. He suddenly noticed how close they were—their noses almost touching.

Minho looked right into Jisung's eyes, seeing tiny dark brown sprinkles in the lighter brown of his iris. Getting lost in his eyes was easy, so easy that he completely forgot about everything else he wanted to tell Jisung.

To be continued...
