Against all odds - Minsung [✔]

trigger warning: main character death <3

Jisung's head felt fuzzy. He couldn't see anything. All he heard were water droplets hitting the concrete, but the soft noises were soon drowned out by the ominous sound of approaching footsteps.

Someone was hiding in the darkness with him. The sounds got louder and louder, and with them, his pulse rose. He kneeled with his palms touching the ground. Pushing himself up, he stood on shaky legs.

He didn't know what had happened to him, had no idea how he got here, and most importantly, he didn't know where Minho was. Being alone in the dark with an unfamiliar presence scared him.

His fear led him to make use of his magic. Golden light gathered in his palm, flooding the room with light. The darkness was driven back. His gentle magic lit up every corner of the room.

But the person he discovered only meters away from him was not who he had expected. He gasped. He felt weak. Deep fear grew in his stomach. Nausea washed over him like a tidal wave and made him drown in an unpleasant feeling.

"Hello, Jisung," he smirked. "Did you miss me?"

Jisung's mouth opened, and yet he couldn't get a word out. It was as if his vocal cords had stopped functioning. His gaze moved searchingly around the place, hoping to see Minho. But he was not there.

"Are you deaf?"

Jisung flinched. His feet moved on their own, shuffling backward. The room he was in wasn't too big, so he wouldn't be able to run forever.

His eyes moved to the stair in the opposite corner; the steps led up to a door. He figured that he had to be in the basement of the building now.

"So you won't talk to me?" He laughed mirthlessly. "Pathetic."

Jisung's breaths came faster now. He hated him and he feared him. This had to be his worst nightmare come alive.

"I can make you talk, you know?" Hyunjin went on to say. "Well, maybe with a bit of violence though," he smirked.

"H-How are you alive? Mochi killed you. You can't be alive."

"Oh? That lower-class demon? You can't be that naïve, Jisung. Did you really think a small cat could stop me?" He replied. His tone slipped, became darker. "I'm here now. That's the only thing that matters."

"No," he breathed.

"Would it make you happy if I told you that I came back just for you?"

"No, no, no," he repeated. With fear consuming him, he stared at the door at the top of the stair. He didn't turn back to check where Hyunjin was. He just ran and maybe that was a mistake.

He ran up the steps without any issues and reached out his arm to the door handle that was meters away from him. He let out a terrified scream when a hand grabbed his ankle. It pulled him roughly and he lost his balance.

He tried to hold onto something to prevent himself from falling, but there was nothing. The world around him tilted. Tipping backward, he screamed. He landed on the sharp edges of the stair and fell to the ground of the basement.

Pain ate through his fragile body. His vision was filled with white light, then turned black. With all his senses focused on the pain alone, he didn't even notice Hyunjin coming closer to him.

Laying on his side, he whimpered and hugged his body. Maybe he had a broken bone, he couldn't tell. However, he was sure that he had an injury on his back.

He coughed and shifted around, knowing that he couldn't stay on the ground for long, or else he would be done for. Through blurry vision, he saw Hyunjin approach.

Desperate to stay alive, he thought of using the last shard of hope he had. His magic. He had to fight for his life. And he couldn't die now.

To be continued...
