Chapter 96

ninety-four

Against all odds - Minsung [✔]

Just like Minho had done before, he summoned a weapon of his choice. He grabbed its handle and angled the tip of the silver blade towards Changbin.

Before he attacked the blood mage, he threw Jisung a serious glance. "Leave the rest to me. Don't interfere!"

As agile as ever, he ran towards Changbin and jabbed the blade at him. However, the blood mage was all too aware of his superior speed and was quick to dodge his attack.

Jisung watched with bated breath, following their movements with his eyes as they danced around each other.

Minho's blade slashed into Changbin's shoulder, but he wasn't phased by the injury and continued to attack as if nothing had happened.

Changbin soon realized that he needed to come up with a better plan in order to fight this demon offensively, so he created a sword of his own.

The clanking of their blades filled the room, along with a curse from Minho when his opponent managed to slash his upper arm. Jisung became increasingly nervous the longer their confrontation held on.

He wanted to help Minho since it looked like he and Changbin were evenly matched. Neither of them was able to gain the upper hand in the fight. It was a constant back and forth.

Minho spat a low curse, his red eyes widening as he realized that he wouldn't be able to avoid the next attack. He raised his blade to dodge the worst of it.

Jisung was quick to intervene. He created a wall using his light magic in between Minho and Changbin, blocking off the latter's magic. Doing so costed him a lot of energy, but he was able to save Minho, atleast.

With Changbin getting distracted by the light surrounding him, Minho used this chance to plunge the blade straight into the his abdomen. The impact of the hit was able to send Changbin to the ground.

Minho's eyes glowed red as he approached the fallen blood mage. "Groveling in the dirt suits you well, scum," he muttered with an amused tone. "You're not leaving this place alive."

Changbin coughed and wiped the blood off the corner of his mouth. He glowered at Minho, not showing any fear at all. If anything, he looked strangely intrigued by the situation, unused to being on the losing side.

He pushed himself up with difficulty, kneeling on the ground. "Very funny," he mumbled to himself, his lips twitching amusedly.

"Freak," Minho cursed, moving the tip of his blade to the blood mage's throat. "You shouldn't have challenged me." He didn't waste another second and pierced Changbin's heart with his blade.

Jisung watched in fear as blood came gushing from the blood mage's chest. The sickening view caused him to swallow hard as he fought hard to not vomit.

Changbin collapsed on the ground, not moving anymore. Minho stared at him scornfully, satisfaction flickering through his red eyes.

The moment the blood mage died, the spell that had been put on the building evaporated. Instantly, the atmosphere lightened and Jisung could finally breathe without suffocating on his fear. They were free.

His body however, was filled with pain. He could barely stand on his legs. To make matters worse, he had used too much magic and now felt drained and tired.

He avoided looking at Changbin's body, moving his blurry gaze to Minho who ran towards him quickly. He tried to stand up, but he tripped on his own feet. Minho caught him and steadied him, carefully holding him up.

"I'm sorry, Jisung," he said quietly. "I should have been with you faster, but I was stupid and got distracted. It's my fault you were injured." The guilt in his voice was clear. It made Jisung sad.

Jisung could hardly form a proper response due to his exhaustion, but he gathered enough strength to verbalize what he had on his mind. "It's not your fault," he breathed.

"No. It is," Minho said lowly as he planted an apologetic kiss on Jisung's forehead. "You have a lot of injuries," he remarked worriedly. "I have to get you to a hospital. This isn't good."

It was the last Jisung heard him say before his body decided that enough was enough. The panic, fear and everything he had experienced in this short amount of time all hit him at once.

He stood no chance. His mind shut down. Everything turned dark.

To be continued...
