Chapter 276

Ice and Fire

While Joe was eating his ice cream, he said, "Aunt Jean, could you please take me to school now? I have classes in the afternoon."

"Get in the car, " said Jean.

"Okay, " replied Joe, as he turned around and got in the car.

While Jean was driving, she asked Joe, "How's the ice cream?"

"It's good."

Joe then suddenly thought of something, and as he looked at her face, he asked, "Aunt Jean, will you meet me and buy me ice cream next time?"

Jean was surprised, and thought to herself, 'Next time? Does Joe want to see me again?'

Joe saw that Jean didn't say anything. He pretended to be helpless, and said, "Never mind! Next time I'll ask my Uncle Wilson to buy me ice cream."

After Jean heard his words, she hastily said, "I'll come to see you in a couple of days again, and I'll buy you ice cream then."

Joe then suddenly looked at Jean, and cheerfully said, "Thank you, Aunt Jean!"

Joe was very delighted, and thought to himself, 'This silly aunt still doesn't have a clue about my true intentions. I just want to get information out of her, and ice cream is the perfect excuse.'

They arrived at the school gate, and after Joe saw that Jean drove away, he wanted to turn around and go back to school, but he found that there were two men dressed in black clothes standing not that far away from him.

Joe stopped and was confused, and he wondered whether anyone was following him.

After a while, a thought came to his mind. Joe didn't walk into the school anymore, because he had already taken the rest of the day off. And even if he didn't go, his teacher would still say nothing, because he was Jackson's son, and his teacher catered to his every whim in order to please his father. All in all, his teacher wouldn't blame him for not attending his lessons in the afternoon.

Joe turned around and then went to an alley. At first, Joe walked slowly, but after he entered into the alley, he stepped up and constantly looked back.

When the two men saw that Joe was looking back, they didn't dare to come close to him, because their boss, Bobby, had mentioned that they shouldn't let Joe find out that he was protected by them.

They sneaked around as they followed Joe from behind.

Joe saw what they were doing, and he suddenly ran to another alley and hid in a corner. He leaned against the wall and heard footsteps approaching him.

One guard said, "We lost him. He's gone."

The other said, "Where could he had gone to? Let's go forward and check if he's anywhere there."

When they were just about to run, Joe suddenly appeared from the other alley and stood in front of the two guards.

The two then froze in their tracks, and as they looked at each other, they didn't know what to do anymore. Joe had obviously found out that they were following him, and they had no idea what to do next.

Joe looked at the two guards, and asked, "Are you following me?"

One of the guards looked at Joe, and after he thought for a while, he said, "No, we just happened to pass by."

"Pass by?" echoed Joe. He thought that they were very silly to say such a thing.

Joe looked pretty relaxed, and as he looked at the two, said, "I know that you're sent by my Daddy. Am I right?"

The two guards then looked at each other and were very confused. Boss Bobby had asked them to keep everything a secret, but now Joe had found out that they were following him.

"Er...Mr. Joe, we are not..." but before the guard finished his sentence, Joe interrupted him, and said, "I'm familiar with the clothes you're dressed in.

When my Daddy locked my Mommy in the villa, men dressed in the same clothes as you guarded the villa everyday." Joe believed that what he saw and judged was right, and anyway, how could he be called a talent if he couldn't even recognize these people? He was still confused as to why his Daddy had sent people to secretly follow him.

The two guards had nothing more to say in their defense because they had been already recognized.

They lowered their heads, and apologized, "Sorry, Mr. Joe."

Joe had no intention to blame them in anyway. He looked at them, and asked, "For how long have you been following me?"

"A couple of days, " said one of the security guards.

"I'm asking when did you start to follow me today." Joe was both childish and serious.

One of the guards replied, "We've been following you ever since this morning when you entered the school."

"So..." Joe then paused for a second, and continued, "You've seen that I went out for lunch with my aunt?"

The two then lowered their heads and looked at each other, as if they were trying to communicate through some sort of eye contact. They didn't reply to Joe's question.

"Answer me!" suddenly shouted Joe. His tone sounded furious, and although he was childish, he was no less bossy than his Daddy was.

The two then couldn't help but shiver, and one of them said, "Yes, we did, but little master Joe, you shouldn't be close to that woman. Boss Bobby ordered us that we shouldn't allow you to be anywhere near strangers."

After Joe heard this, he understood that his Daddy had asked Bobby to protect him and to prevent him from getting close to strangers. Joe wondered what Jean had said to him and knew his Daddy's intention. There certainly was a group of people that wanted to get back at his Daddy, so his Daddy worried that he might be hurt and thus had put someone to keep an eye on him.

"Have you reported this to Bobby yet?" asked Joe. Joe directly called Bobby's name, and although Bobby was much more older than him, he was still just a servant for Joe. Joe was, after all, Jackson's son, a very powerful man.
