Chapter 452
Ice and Fire
"I am heading over to see you, now, " Jackson told Cherry on his way out of the office.
When Jackson got it in his mind to do something, no force on heaven or earth could stop him, so Cherry agreed.
Looking at the clock, she smiled, "Sounds good. It's almost noon, and we can have lunch together when you come here."
"Alright, be right there." responded Jackson.
He'd just ended the call and taken a couple of steps, when Jackson heard his name being called.
From somewhere behind him came the high-pitched voice calling, "Mr. Jackson! Oh, Mr. Jackson..?"
Jackson was in a hurry and annoyed, but this was his business, so he stopped and turned around. He watched Susan as she walked up to him.
Sashaying and wearing a calculating smile, Susan caught up to Jackson. He asked dispassionately, "How can I help you?"
Looking up at him, Susan tilted her head slightly and batted her eyes. Her voice purred as she nonchalantly asked, "Hello Mr. Jackson, where are you off to?"
"I'm going out. What's the matter?" There was a trace of agitation in his voice. He couldn't understand why Susan insisted on approaching him with matters. Normally, the staff should ask for the managers' help if something happened and they couldn't handle. Going over a managers head was unheard of at the bar, and no one would go directly to the owner unless the managers didn't resolve the problems.
"Oh, there's nothing wrong. I wanted to find out where you are going and to see if I could accompany you, " Susan's obsequious request was presumptuous at best. She thought Jackson might be going out for pleasure and not business reasons, and this would be an excellent opportunity for some alone time with him so he could get to know her and maybe give her special attention. She had been working in the bar for a long time, but she seldom had time to approach him. Today was a God-given opportunity that she decided to seize.
However Jackson remained aloof toward her, and with a detached pitch he replied, "I am going to see my wife; do you still want to go with me?" He snapped curtly turning and walking away, paying no attention to her reaction.
"I..." Susan gagged on her anger. Watching him disappearing in the distance, Susan felt stung and hurt. She hadn't expected him to be going to see his wife. He indeed lived up to his reputation as insensitive, but he was warm and thoughtful to his wife. Then, his consideration solely belonged to his beloved woman. 'How can I get him to treat me with care?' Susan asked herself.
After arriving at the H King Group, Jackson took his phone out and called Cherry to let her know he was waiting downstairs.
Three minutes later, Cherry walked out of the building and got into Jackson's car.
"I hope the Sichuan restaurant is good for lunch. I booked a room for us there, " Cherry told Jackson, while fastening her seatbelt.
"Okay, " Jackson nodded as he pulled out and drove away.
Soon after, they arrived at the Sichuan restaurant and amicably chatted as they ate lunch.
"What's wrong? Why did you want to see me at noon?" Cherry asked curiously. She had a vague feeling that something was on Jackson's mind, or he would've waited till they were home later to see her.
"I missed you and wanted to have lunch with you, nothing more, " commented Jackson picking at some food in Cherry's bowl.
Cherry put her chopsticks down, stood up, walked over to Jackson and cozied up lovingly onto his lap. She draped her arms around his neck and asked, "Honey? Do you think I don't know you at all?"
Jackson smiled wryly, she'd been part of his life a long time, and couldn't hide what he felt from Cherry, she knew him too well.
Since he was caught, he confessed, "I'm meeting with Eric and Jonson this afternoon."
As soon as he told her, Cherry's mouth fell open in astonishment, "Oh! Have you prepared what to say to them?" she asked worried.
"Yes, " Jackson nodded, "I have, but, I am not sure how things will go though. Which makes me nervous, it's the first time in years that I've done something that I'm not sure of."
His brows were knitted with worry, and he was scowling. Cherry knew he was tangled in torment. She knew he was a fastidious planner, who meticulously prepared for anything, nothing Jackson did was left to chance, he even took the odds into account, and unless they favored him, he wouldn't do it. Cherry admired his style and believed in his ability to handle things. However, this matter related to many people, some of which involved aspects he wasn't able to factor in, leading Cherry to believe Jackson must be anxious about his upcoming meeting.
"Jackson, telling them the truth when you meet them, no matter what the consequences are is the best option. I will stand by your side and face anything with you, " reassured Cherry calmly. She wanted Jackson to understand that whatever happened, she would always be at his side.
Hearing the raw sentiment in Cherry's voice, Jackson caressed her cheek tenderly, "Thank you Babe, I know you won't leave me."
A sparkle of metal glinting in the light and flash of purple below the nape of Cherry's neck, just above her bosom suddenly caught Jackson's attention.
He looked down at the pendant hanging around Cherry's neck as he talked to her. The last gift from Grandpa, one was given to Cherry and one to Joe because they were cherished members of the Chu family, and his grandson, Jackson, loved Cherry and Joe above all others.
Jackson had a sad smile as he traced the pendant with his fingers and whispered, "Now, I kind of miss Grandpa."
After hearing the sadness in Jackson's voice, Cherry looked at his face, and the pain etched there made her heart constrict. She held his hands tenderly, and comforted him, "I miss him too."
Jackson studied the pendant carefully and in a serious tone said, "This gift represents Grandpa's love for you. You must cherish it!"
She knew she was the one member of the Chu family, that Jackson relied on, so she earnestly promised, "Always!" Cherry's pendant was an invaluable treasure Grandpa had given her. In fact, everything she had gained since becoming part of the Chu family was precious to her, she wouldn't let Jackson or Grandpa down.
Jackson hugged Cherry into his chest, feeling her breath. Whenever he held her closely, he felt warm and contented.
Lunch ended too soon for the couple happily sharing a meal and chatting. Afterwards, Jackson put his hand on Cherry's shoulder and said, " Come on, I'll drive you back to the H King Group before my meeting."
"Okay, " a smiling Cherry agreed as the two got in the car and drove off.
Jackson dropped Cherry off at the entrance to the H King Group before driving away to his meeting with Eric and Jonson.
Watching the car getting smaller in the distance, Cherry prayed with all her heart, 'Please, give Jackson good luck! Allow him to be successful in his negotiations today. I hope everything goes well to him.'
As Cherry got to her office, Wilson came in.
"Thank heavens! Cherry, you're back!" said Wilson excitedly.
"Yes, I'm back. Do you need me for something?" Cherry asked.
"Yes, I need you to take a look at this contract. I would like you to handle the negotiates this afternoon. This contract will bring significant revenues into our company. So, if everything goes well, sign the deal immediately, " directed Wilson, as he handed some paperwork to Cherry.
Cherry took the contract from Wilson, "Alright, I will review the documents first, and develop a plan. I will be prepared."
As Cherry reached out to take the papers, Wilson held them a moment more, looking into his sister's eyes he stressed, "Cherry. I requested that you negotiate the contract because it is imperative for us to land it, and I think you are the most capable person to manage it, " Lauded Wilson.
"I understand!" acknowledged Cherry.
With business out of the way, Wilson was concerned about his sister, so, he asked, "Why didn't you ask me to join you for lunch today? We usually eat together unless something's up."

"Well, Jackson met me at noon. He called me out. I am sorry, I didn't ask you!" Cherry explained hastily.
"It's okay. I don't mind; I was just making sure everything was okay." Wilson waved his hand, letting Cherry know he didn't blame her. A thought struck him, and he asked, "Why did Jackson want to see you? Is everything okay?"
"No, he had some free time today and didn't want to have lunch alone, so he came to see me. After lunch, he drove me back here and left, " stated Cherry. She didn't want Wilson to be worried about Jackson's meeting with Eric and Johnson because it was Chu family business. So, it would be inappropriate of her to tell Wilson without Jackson's permission. Also, considering Wilson didn't know the men, and It would be senseless to explain it to Wilson.
"Okay, I see. You must tell me though, if you had any difficulties. I'm your brother and will help however I can." Wilson told her sincerely. Cherry was his only sister and he didn't want anything to happen to her.
"I know." said Cherry smiling, "So? How are Mother and Uncle Jacob? What are they up to lately?"
