Chapter 458
Ice and Fire
After a little while, Derek couldn't wait any longer. "Cherry, when will the piano lesson end?" he asked, eager to meet Amy again.
"Just wait, Derek! There's still more than an hour left in Joe's lesson, " Cherry replied impatiently. She took Jackson's arm and snuggled closer to him.
Derek's face fell. "More than an hour? Such a long time!" he whined.
Her eyes didn't even leave the TV this time she addressed Derek. "You can go now if you don't want to wait. I can just ask Bill to drive her home after class."
"No, no, I'll wait! I'll wait for her every time!" he hastily replied.
Cherry just smiled.
Derek turned to Jackson, and pleaded in a childish tone. "Jackson, you're spoiling her!"
"She is my wife. Who should I spoil if not her?" Jackson replied calmly and coldly.
That silenced Derek immediately.
An hour later, Amy had finally finished Joe's piano lesson. She was surprised to see Derek watching TV in the living room with Cherry and Jackson when she came downstairs.
"Have you finished your class?" Derek stood immediately to greet Amy.
Amy blinked. "Yes, " she said softly.
Standing as well, Cherry and Jackson greeted Amy again.
"Amy, how was the class? "Is it hard to teach Joe to play the piano?" Cherry asked with concern.
"Not at all. Joe is very smart. He easily understands whatever I teach and he does it very well, " Amy replied with admiration. "It's much easier to teach Joe, he is much better than my other students."
Smiling as a proud mother, Cherry gestured at Derek. "Amy, thank you so much. Derek just happened to be here tonight. He's offered to take you home tonight. Is that okay?"
Amy nodded gratefully at Derek. "Thank you, Mr. Derek."
Remaining silent, Derek simply smiled.
By the time they were in the car on their way to Amy's home, Amy had guessed that Derek had made a point to wait for her at the Chu Family residence.
"Were you deliberately waiting for me there?" Amy finally gathered the courage to ask the question burning on her mind.
Taken aback by Amy's sudden question, he stuttered, "I...I..."
She looked at the side of Derek's face as he watched the road. "Yes, or no? I don't like liars, " she told him sternly.
Derek cared a great deal for Amy, and she was grateful to that. He wasn't the terrible men she met at other places, so she wasn't opposed to going for it with him. If he really did want to date her, she'd like to give it a go.
"Well, yes, I wanted to make sure you got home safely, " Derek started hesitantly. He took an opportunity to pull the car over and park on the side of the road.
Something emboldened Derek once they'd stopped and he looked at Amy directly. "Amy, I like you and I want to be your boyfriend."
Amy stared back in disbelief. Surprise and embarrassment flushed her face, caused by his sudden confidence.
"But...But..." This time, it was Amy that stuttered and stumbled over her words. "We've only met twice, " she told him.
"Do you believe that it was love at first sight, the moment I saw you. Your good friend, Cherry, she and Jackson met each other once and they decided then to get married, " he revealed, in an attempt to persuade her.
"Really?" Amy asked in surprise. This was unexpected. Cherry hadn't told her how they met or when they decided to get married. Could it be true?
Wasn't that a little too fast?
Nodding and a little breathless, Derek's eyes softened. "Yes. I believe you're a good woman. Cherry is a good judge of character, and I trust her. You can trust me too. So, what do you think?" he asked, and his voice was hopeful. "Shall we have a 'love after marriage' story?"
"Is that possible?" asked Amy, her heart pounding against her chest faster and faster. She knew she felt something for the man before her, and she did believe in feelings. But marriage was serious, something that would affect her life. She needed to think about it carefully. How could she marry someone without thinking?
"Absolutely, it's possible! Amy, I want to marry you! Now!" Derek cried. He had always been impulsive. He truly felt that he loved the woman in front of him, not just because he had seen Jackson do it. He hadn't fallen in love with a woman for many years. them?
Amy was trying to resist the madness of her heart. "Derek, " she finally uttered.
"Yes, " replied Derek.
She took a deep breath. "One week!" she told him firmly but anxiously. "We'll trial for one week to be together. If we can get to know each other and tolerate each others' flaws and shortcomings within one week, I'll promise to marry you." She relaxed, not realising she had been tense. She couldn't believe she'd promised that. But she still firmly believed in a Mr. Right for her, the man who would break her principles, change her habits and become the exception to her. And she thought that could be Derek.
Derek replied firmly, "Okay, okay." He believed confidently that he would marry her one day.
The next day, Cherry went to meet a client to prepare and sign the contract. She paused at the door of the hotel, taking a deep breath. She was fully prepared and confident. This client was especially important for the H King Group, and she was to sign the contract with him.
She entered the hotel and quickly walked to the appointed private room. Upon entry, she was stunned to see Mond in the private room.
"Mond? Why are you here?" Cherry asked in surprise. Why was Mond here sitting next to the H King Group's client? What's going on?
Mond didn't respond to Cherry, but instead turned to the man beside him. "You can leave now."
"Y-yes, Mr. Mond. I'll leave now, " the man agreed, trembling. He left in a nervous hurry.
