Chapter 389
Wife
At nine oâclock the next day, Rosalie was woken up by her phone ringing.
She opened her eyes, and realized that she had overslept. She usually didnât wake up this late.
Rosalie was still feeling woozy as she sat up on the bed. She reached for her phone, and saw an incoming call. Her heart leapt, and she answered the call immediately.
âHey, Mom.â
âRose, are you up?â Sydney asked.
âI am,â Rosalie said as she combed her fingers through her hair, feeling slightly guilty. She looked like a little girl who got caught by her mother for sleeping in, and she dared not admit it. âWhatâs up, Mom?â
âIâm meeting Geoffrey for lunch later. Join me.â
âJoin you? Are you sure, Mom?â
âDo you want me to meet that cunning businessman all by myself?â
âWell, no,â Rosalie said hurriedly. âOf course not, Mom. Iâll go with you.â
She had a part to play in this meeting between her mom and Geoffrey. She introduced them for the sake of helping Sebastian, and had begged her mom to meet Geoffrey. She couldnât possibly leave her mom in the lurch now.
She just didnât expect the meeting to happen so soon.
Sydney said, âAlright, get yourself ready. Iâll drive over to fetch you. Weâll go to the restaurant together.â
âMom, just tell me the address of the restaurant. I can drive there myself.â
âDonât be silly,â Sydney said firmly. âI said Iâll go fetch you. That settles it.â
Sydney didnât say anything further and hung up right after, not giving Rosalie a chance to reject her.
Rosalie had no choice but to do as Sydney said.
She got out of bed, and walked to the washroom. She looked at herself in the mirror, and jumped in fright. Her face was pale, and her eyes were red and swollen.
Last night, she had cried too much and for too long.
Not wanting Sydney to see her in this state, she hurriedly covered her eyes with a warm towel. She would pretend that what happeneddast night didnât happen. Content belongs to NovelDrama.Org

âMom, whatâs the matter? Are you feeling tired?â
âIâm fine. I had to take care of Theo last night, and didnât sleep much.â
Rosalieâs heart leapt at Sydneyâs words. âDid something bad happen to Theo?â
Sydney nodded, âYes.â
âWhat is it?â Rosalie asked with worry.
Sydney turned around, and said, âItâs nothing to do with you. You two are already divorced.â
With that, Sydney stepped hard on the accelerator and zoomed off.
Throughout the journey, Rosalie kept thinking about Theodore. Many times, she wanted to ask Sydney about it, but she couldnât get past the fear she had for her
mother-in-law. Content belongs to NovelDrama.Org
To be accurate, her ex-mother-in-law.
She could sense that Sydney was quite upset today.
But Rosalie couldnât help but ask, âMom, is Theo sick?â
Things werenât amicable between them last night.
âI said that it has nothing to do with you. Why are you worried if heâs sick or not? Youâre not his wife,â Sydney said flatly.
Rosalie was stunned for words. âBut Iâ¦â
She wasnât his wife, yes, and she had made it clear that she didnât want to be his sister. Who was she to him, that she should worry about him? They had made things clear between them last night, that they would live their respective lives. What was the point of caring about him now? It would only make things between them more complicated.
Rosalie asked nothing further, and swallowed her words of concern back down her throat.
