Chapter 2009
Night of Destiny
âOlivia, how could youâ¦â Connor was stunned by his wifeâs unexpected response.
Nonetheless, Ellen only responded calmly, âAunt Olivia, thatâs between the two of you,
and I wouldnât want to be a part of it.â
Olivia was taken aback by Ellenâs response, wondering if she no longer treated them
as her family. Isnât she going to say something or stand up for me?
At the same time, Olivia was not the only one feeling surprised, for Connor couldnât
believe his eyes either. After all, Ellenâs indifference suggested that she was probably
growing apart from them, indicating that she might not get along with them anymore in
the future.
âTake me back to the car, would you, Uncle Connor?â Ellen asked. Sensing her
reluctance to stay any longer, Connor opened the door for her and walked her
downstairs. Then, Ellen took a card out of her pocket and said, âHere is 145,000. The
password is triple six triple six.â
âEllenâ¦â Connor was touched, feeling guilty about what he did to Ellen back then
when she could have repaid him with retaliation instead of kindness.
âSay no more, Uncle Connor. Take good care of yourself,â Ellen responded. Deep
down, she only decided to help Connor because he was her uncle; she wasnât
concerned about the others. âAlright, I know my way out from here.â Ellen walked
away upon finishing her sentence.
At that moment, tears of regret were rolling in Connorâs eyes, but he didnât continue to
follow Ellen any further, feeling ashamed of what he did to his own niece.
Nevertheless, he was grateful for Ellenâs kindness when she lent him a helping hand
in his desperate moments.
After all, Connor found his back against the wall when he couldnât find a job due to his
age. Although he tried interviewing for a position as a security guard earlier, he was
rejected almost immediately because he was deemed too old for the role.
Soon, Ellen walked out of the alley and was immediately able to see a tall silhouette
waiting for her amidst the chilly breeze. While the man was standing outside the car,
his bodyguards each took a corner and stood guard. At the sight of that, Ellen felt a
stab of pain in her heart and wished Jared had waited for her in the car instead.
Come on! Whatâs he doing outside the car? Doesnât he know how cold it is out here?
In fact, the bodyguards wouldnât have allowed Jared to wait outside the car and risk
catching a cold, but since Jared insisted, they had no choice but to give in.
Soon, Ellen came running Jaredâs way just as the man walked closer to her. However,
a cyclist suddenly appeared on her left, shocking Jared just when she fell in his arms
in time.
Although she bumped her face against the manâs firm chest, a delighted smile showed
on her face. âWhatâs so funny? Do you know how worried I am about you?â Jared
pinched Ellenâs nose.
Tm fine, arenât I?â Ellen curled her lips upward and seized Jaredâs hands, which were
freezing cold. âWhy didnât you wait for me in the car? You shouldnât have waited for
me outside.â
âI knew you wouldnât stay long.â Knowing Ellen, Jared believed she would be back as
soon as she did what she wanted to, which was why he decided to wait for her outside
the car.
Ellen seized the manâs hand and said, âLetâs get in the car before you catch a cold.â
After Jared wrapped his arm around Ellenâs shoulder and entered the car with her, the
motorcade disappeared on the road in the cold winter
